Fair point on complication of my question on the other thread. However, that thread is just one data point. There are many other unanswered questions submitted by other people.
I think your analogy is a little off. It is more like...
1. There is a line with a sign that reads "Ask The Situation for an Autograph"
2. Although I never previously considered getting an autograph from The Situation, I get in line.
3. While in line, it becomes obvious that people in the line...

1. Bait and switch. There is nothing wrong with selling Ovaltine. Bait and switch is a little different. Why not label the forum what it actually is instead of label the forum something it isn't? Why not label the forum "Mike Phillips on Autogeek products" so people don't...

1. No consensus. You suggested that there is no "trade off" with PPF in terms of shine. Others have suggested the opposite. There is no objective data and seemingly not much interest in objective data. With respect, I don't know who is right.
2. OEM paint systems. You mentioned...
I think you hit the nail on the head.
On a related note.... If baseball games were decided primarily by opinions, there would be no quants in baseball. If car races were decided by opinions, metrics would be lacking.
In the "sport" of show car competitions, the winner is determined by opinion...
I think you are right. This forum is a niche market of a niche market (user of after market car products that chat about them in forums). In a forum about engines, I suspect that few discuss horsepower generically as being good enough for them. That market wants numbers and wants them to be...
Fair enough... my point is that gloss is an extremely pervasive topic throughout Autogeek (this isn't just limited to PPF) and there are (I believe) literally zero metrics.
Take just the topic of tire shine alone. Some prefer glossy. Some do not. (To my knowledge) there is zero objective...
With respect... that sounds a little like saying that if a wide receiver can't catch a ball, it doesn't matter how fast they are.
That is true.
But it doesn't mean fast isn't a critically important function of a quality wide receiver.
Funx650...
I think those are good questions. I believe that the most critical aspect is that the answer requires objective measuring.
Currently, Autogeek is selling 1,319 products related to "gloss". How many of those products have provided scientifically objective measurements of gloss? I...
Maybe you do have to accept a trade off.
Maybe you don't have to accept a trade off.
Is John Ross faster than Quincy Adeboyejo? Absolutely. No one would say otherwise.
Is PPF less glossy than no PPF? This question can be answered scientifically in decimal places just as the "Is John Ross...
Perhaps I have watched too much college football but the "gloss" discussion reminds me of that sport. For years you watch players and make judgements about how fast they are by simply watching them. But then the professionals come in (i.e. the NFL combine) and don't just watch them... they...
Thanks Funx650
Understood... but it appears that the "gurus" feel that there are overriding reasons not to install it. AMMO NYC (even when it wasn't in the car show) used PPF on only the bumper of a $12mm car... and I haven't seen an example of Mike Phillips using any PPF even outside of a car...
If it is good enough for you, that is all that matters. And to be candid, it may be good for me also.
Still... I would like to know why people considered to be the best in the business aren't using PPF on their show cars. AMMO NYC's video specifically discusses him taking a clear bra off a car...
Thanks.
A few thoughts.
1. I was searching for the use of the acronym "PPF" (and frankly I am not certain the search function works properly or I am using it properly)
2. He is clearly discussing PPF in the post above but no where does he say he ever uses them at all... even on a daily...
