Did you use compressed air to clean the pad after each pass? Pass meaning section 2x2 or so area.

I think you would hard pressed to run the cleaning gun ( what I have) with that small of a compressor . My compressor is a 5hp 2 stage delivers 15 cfm@100 psi

I have one it works ok we have been using Car Brite blue max apc in it straight.

Bought some 105 used it on some 2000 grit scratches with a megs mf pad nice results..

I had a similar noise on my 7424xp I torn it down found the screw that goes into the gear assembly sheered off! This has been dropped a few times so that did not help!
