Thanks Mike. Just getting ready to polish some glass for the first time, and wanted to make sure I didn't do something stupid. The first time I refinished some headlights I failed to put any kind of coating on them afterwords, and a week later it was like I hadn't even touched them. Obviously...
Pick up a used 60 gallon belt driven compressor on your local craigslist. Large compressors like that will last for decades, every with very little maintenance. You'll be able to run anything off it, even a 5" dual action sander, it will be quiet, and you'll find one under $400 no problem...
Mike, do windshields have any sort of protective coating thats going to be removed and should be replaced? I'm thinking of headlights, where most have some sort of UV coating from the factory, and after polishing them you need to seal them to keep them from rapidly deteriorating again. Do...

Autogeek, here are the Lake Country part numbers:
Specifications - Spot Buff Pads | Buffing & Polishing Products From Lake Country Manufacturing
I'd love to pick up a kit of 3" pads with a 3" backing plate. A choose your own pads kit with 5 or 6 pads would be perfect.
Here's the solution, to anyone looking for 3" pads:
Lake Country 3" CCS Pad Kit
I don't understand why Autogeek won't sell these. They seem to sell everything else Lake Country makes.
Autogeek people, I'll hold off 4 or 5 days before placing my order at that other site. If you can get these...
Anything over 6 CFM is going to require a huge, belt driven compressor. Anything over 12 CFM is going to require a 2 stage pump.
I wouldn't be surprised if an air powered DA sander required 14-15 CFM, its those tools hog a lot of air. The way most people would deal with that at home is by...
For anyone that destroys the cheap phillips head screws when taking the gear head apart, they are M4x0.7 x 16mm. They sell them at Home Depot, 4 to a pack for $1.05, with hex heads so they won't strip out.
Did you put the backing plate back on yet? Mine went from quite a bit of vibration before the grease mod to virtually no vibration at all after the mod. But if the backing plate isn't installed, the balance won't be correct.
I wanted to share a trick I use when vacuuming out my cars.
I have this vacuum:
http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-ProGrade-Garage-Utility-L2310/dp/B000289920
It comes with a pretty awesome 30' long hose, plus top quality attachments. With the 30' hose, I can reach anywhere in my 2 car garage, so I...
If you have space in your vehicle to mount it, this vaccuum kicks ass:

I have one in my 2 car garage; I can do the complete interiors of both vehicles with the 30' hose. Plus the end attachments it comes with are top quality.
I am already benefiting from the incredibly responsive community. I posted a question earlier today and am already getting quite a few responses.
The other forum I'm pretty active on is BMW Zpost. Amazing how much faster the posts come in here; I guess having a max possible community size of...
