I'm fairly certain its not paint or clear coat by the way it dissolved and washed out. The test spot was about 12x12 and the grime plugged up my pad twice after just a few passes. Any suggestions for something paint safe that will at least pull some it out of the paint before I polish?

I decided to try a test spot on our black LX470 today while I had my supplies out. We're the second owners. The vehicle was religiously maintained by the deal but I'm guessing that's the only time it was washed. The paint is pretty hammered, swirls and scratches like your worse nightmare...
Well I made good progress today, been working on it a little after work and here and there. I picked up some 5" megs pads and they work much better on the PC than the 6" I was using. Even with the smaller pad I think I can work faster with the smaller pad. Allows more pressure without slowing...

I would agree that 90% is good enough on a vehicle being sold but I'm using them to gain experience too.
I've got some thin wool pads and some m101 on the way. I'm sure this combo will take care of it.
