If you're doing car shows you may want even wider than 35. It can be pretty hard to get a good shot when they're close together. But if it's just 1 car at a time I think I'd go with the 50. Probably the best way to figure it out would be to rent both lenses and see which one you like best...

You can get Gold Class at Target. I've also used and like Mother's (I think it's California Gold). I do not like Turtle Wax Ice wash too much... it foams up nice in the bucket but doesn't seem to stay as foamy on the mitt or the car.
