Flow Chart Check out the link above. Least aggressive method first. There are a lot of helpful articles in the forum. If you're going to polish/compound, Meg's ultimate line is great for newbies (and i think works really well in general)

Not sure how "west" you are, but Tom and Jerry's auto body (on the far NW side of chicago) did some really good work on my Girlfriends highlander - WAYYYYY better than Gerber. It was all body damage, no frame/structural stuff.

Get a 7424xp or GG6 like dlc95 said. If you dont do it now, you will eventually... the only difference being that you will say, "I wish I would have done this sooner'

I've used ultimate compound before - it worked pretty well.

I have the kit with the backing plate for a drill. I found I got better results with a sanding block and sandpaper by hand. It was easier to evenly level down the headlights. Maybe i just have bad hand control, but the drill made things more difficult IMO

Im about in the same boat as you, except for I just do it as a hobby. I think it's not just a small town thing - I live in Chicago and its the same way. Even if you go to the wealthier suburbs - you see Range Rovers, Porsches, Mercedes, ETC going to the "Touchless" car wash, where they pay...

Stoner Tarminator - I usually let it soak the tar a bit... it will literally drip off sometimes.

I personally havent had a problem with it. I usually apply by machine, and wipe it off within about 5 minutes. Good luck!
