The HF DA is a great machine, but its backing plate and the HF pads should be replaced immediately. The polisher itself should serve you very well. Grab a lake country 5" backing plate and some 5.5" flat pads. (or whatever pad you like, but these are economical and deliver great results)...

It's literally the exact same thing as the gray one. If you were going to buy that then no reason not to get the white one. Mine has held up for about 2 years now.

You will need a 5" backing plate. It is worth the investment. The smaller pads and backing plate will allow you to get the most out of the Harbor Freight DA.

Try a bug/tar remover to dissolve it? Maybe even goo gone. If that fails, then a plastic razor blade followed by clay should do the trick.
