I'll second Gyeon Can Coat Evo. Folks here turned me on to that and so far, I really like it. It's not as cheap as some of the other options but it does last quite awhile.

Can Coat as you mentioned will work great on your white car. Thats what I have on my new white truck. Just do the prep work and there will be no worries. I think coatings and LSP's last a little longer on white cars as well as the paintwork on light vehicles doesnt get as hot as darker colors.

I think some dealers just do it to get their mark up over MSRP. A lot of dealerships are charging over sticker. People are to a degree complaining about that practice. Easier to add a fake or low-quality service at an inflated price to not get pushback. Some folks will fall for it.
