Commuting for work - how far is too far?

Once again, I am truthfully thankful for all the input from my fellow Geeks! I have accepted the position with my start date on June 5th. Thanks again for being a great sounding board to go over the pros and cons, and sharing some of the personal experiences many of you have had with your...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

My dream job is somewhere that will not only help grow my career, but takes an interest in ensuring my personal life's well being. In my current position (in general) I have a couple of career paths to typically go down: 1. Expand my technical expertise to become an elite network engineer 2...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

It really seems that this job is the way to go. Room for learning, growth, and an all around awesome place to work it seems. No matter where I go, it seems some sort of issue will exist, so I just have to pick my poison. If it's the longer commute that is the issue, I will just need to find a...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

25 years! That's good stuff. With all the new items available for listening, it seems I can really help make the drives entertaining and/or some sort of self-improvement time. Satellite radio, audible, podcasts, etc....

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

This is 100% true. In this career (like many others), the day you stop learning is the day you kill your career. Where I'm at now has begun to bore me to death because I'm doing things that I learned about when I first broke into this field 5 years ago. I sincerely appreciate everyone's...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

Wow... what a small world! I actually live behind the Costco as well in Seminole Lakes! (for now) The weekend before this new job starts my wife and I are actually moving to a new house that we just bought, but still in Royal Palm off of Okeechobee.

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

Yeah, that's rough. I'm in South Florida and I'll be driving from Royal Palm Beach down to Weston if you're familiar with the areas. Luckily, I won't be hitting the crazy traffic down in Miami (a hot spot for tech jobs). That would've been a hard no for me at that point. Thanks, Bob. This is...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

That's very true. The biggest thing to me is not sacrificing time with my wife and daughter (she's 4 months old, so I don't want to miss her growing up!) The commute is what it is it seems. I think I can just spin that in my favor of making it a personal development hour or something...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

Can't watch the videos while I drive :) Yeah, I know that is very common in California, New York, and other places. I talked to my wife about it and she is very supportive. I know this is up to me, but I just don't want to take the job, and 6 months later I really hate the commute. But, it...

Commuting for work - how far is too far?

Hello my fellow geeks! Like many of us on the forum I work in a different profession by day and let out my inner detailer at night and on the weekends. That being said, where I am now is a place where I do not see much growth anymore. In fact, I get bored at work and spend the majority of my...

Wash and wax on a hot day

I've washed mine and my wife's car in direct sunlight for quite some time now. Once I get the hose out, foam gun ready, and buckets filled up (2BM + 1 for the wheels/tires) I can perform a complete wash & wax with D156 on one vehicle in about 35 - 40 minutes. If the sun is really cooking, I...

    Opti-coat VS Wolfgang coating

I have Wolfgang on my wife's car for approximately 6 months now. The paint is still holding up well with no boosters applied... still slick, looks like a candy coating, and makes cleaning the paint system a breeze. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't waste my time on the glass though...
