Yes, you are correct and that is the part that broke on mine.
And there is no possible way that spindle could be hollow because it's micro skinny as it is.
Thanks CaptJon, I was tying to find something like that on their website but I guess I didn't look hard enough.
There's no doubt in my mind about the Lifetime that Griot's offers and they're the ones getting my money.
Hey, thanks for the tip. I'm a pretty handy guy so I might be able to repair it and it would be nice to have a backup DA.
BTW, I had the standard 7424, not the XP. I wonder if they beefed up the spindle on the XP. Either way, I hate the handle on the Porter Cable and the Griot's one looks...
Well, if a machines sole job is to spin in a concentric circle then I'd expect it to last. Especially if its a Porter Cable. Just like I'd expect a Craftsman socket wrench not to strip when I'm cranking down on something hard even though they're not meant to torque anything down real tight. I...
Hey guys, thanks for all the comments. This thread is informative and entertaining for me.
I do want to say something about reliability and brand loyalty.
I myself have no brand loyalty anymore if the product I'm going to buy from them isn't engineered to take the abuse of what they're...
Well, 3 owners of the Griot's on this thread say theirs come with a Lifetime Warranty and feslope said this:
"I had a Griot 3" go bad. Griots just sent me a new one within a couple of days along with a return label for the defective one. "
Sounds like affirmation for me.
Did you guys read...
Get real dude, if I've only used it like 10 times, I'd expect it to last regardless of how old it is. Maybe that spindle rusted. Should I have kept the unit in a vacuum sealed bag?
Also, what was I supposed to do? I didn't know what the problem was in the first place. Now I do and now I...
Hey, I thought you said these were made in the USA.
Anyways, it's a nice looking polisher but I don't do this enough to invest in something like that.
I would however pay up to $160 bucks for a DA that was made in the USA.
I could see getting one of those if you detail cars for a living but for the weekend detailer, $300 bucks is a big investment for something you're not going to use all the time.
I like the idea of a Lifetime Warranty so I'm going with the Griot's.
Let me describe what had happened as this may help some of you. I was using it a few month's ago when I noticed it was vibrating more than usual and it was making a metal on metal noise. I pulled the backing plate and...
I would definitely buy it if it has a Lifetime Warranty because you guys might laugh at me but I like Meguiar's stuff.
So, does it have a Lifetime Warranty?
