Never determined what they were but it was only on one side so I assume something splashed on it. Clay would not remove them. The polish has extremely fine grit that completely removed them, not cover them up.
Thanks for the all the advice Bobby. Wiped it down with the Wolfgang Polish enhancer, then used some Pinnacle Finish Polish on a soft cloth. Took a little more pressure then I anticipated but I was able to get it out. Sealed it back up and hoping it never comes back.

Those are the spots. The car is a few months old now and these only showed up last week. They look like water drips that may have had some product or chemical in the water.
I don't think they are just hard water.

I will give it another try along with the hard water recommendations.
The car gets washed almost weekly and I stay on top of any water drips. Hard to believe it happened in such a short time.
