I initially just saw a comment that it is only for the long throw Griot's but I retract that, since there are two plates offered; one 5" for the standard Griot DD6 and one 5" specially made for the attachment to a Griot's long throw.

Is it absolutely necessary to use Griot's pads with a 5" Griot vented backing plate? My concern is getting "locked" into having to use just their line of pads.

I read on Griot's site that that new 5" BP is made just for the long throw Griot models
