Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

Good to hear you got some decent results. I wet sanded a test area on a heavily oxidised boat recently (like chalk) with the Mirka Abralon pads that Mike recommended. They're really good. I followed up buffing with a wool pad and cutting compound and thought I'd finish it off with the blue...

Has wax seen its day? Can you recommend a boat sealant?

Thank you for your replies, there's some interesting answers and the SONAX Polymer Net Shield looks very good, I've done some background on it now. Great on a car, but I think it would work out quite expensive on a 65' boat. I know that anything from the Meguires line is going to be pretty...

Has wax seen its day? Can you recommend a boat sealant?

Ceramic coatings, yes, I'm really keen on them, but I'm thinking of when people don't want to spend that much money. Sealant are useful in this case as they're more comparable with a decent wax in price

Has wax seen its day? Can you recommend a boat sealant?

I started auto detailing in the UK back in the 80's. Then, there were only a handful of products to choose from and wax was king. A few "sealant" type products started creeping in and cost a hell of a lot of money for the customer. There was one that came in a ready loaded sponge, so you prick...

    Polishing aluminium outriggers

I've done some more research on this and it appears it's not so straight forward... from what I can figure out, depending on whether the Aluminum (note, I've changed the spelling for the US side of the pond) has been anodized or not. For example, Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish state that it's...

Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

I ordered a couple of blue Rupes cutting pads and Mike kindly sent some Captains Compound for me to try with them. Captains Compound is a one step compound and polish. The blue Rupes pads are really quite course and stiff, more so than I was expecting and the Captains Compound was the...

Polishing gelcoat makes it go dull - what am I doing wrong?

    Polishing aluminium outriggers

Hi, I wonder if anyone has a tip for polishing aluminium outriggers or the aluminium on tuna towers come to that. They're dull and in some areas even chalky looking. I've tried collinite metal polish/wax, an aluminium cleaner (don't have the name offhand) and even compound and all of them bring...

Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

It is very much appreciated that you do share your knowledge and experience. I've learned a lot already and have only been on the forum a short while so thank you for that :dblthumb2: Those Mirka Abralon cutting pads look good. I note that that go in increments of 1000 grit size. Do you find...

Polishing gelcoat makes it go dull - what am I doing wrong?

Following some northerly winds yesterday, the air quality was very good and with a bright sun, I had an opportunity to inspect the boat carefully. I could clearly see that the texture of the gelcoat had changed where I'd used a soft pad, it had become annealed. I suspect that for some reason...

    Coating/Protectant for EVA Foam mats

Thats interesting... it's good to hear its served its purpose of protecting the paintwork for 2 years but not infallible to the effects of micro scratching. Then again it shows you how hard it cures to. Better the ceramic to be micro marred than the paintwork right!

    Coating/Protectant for EVA Foam mats

I've heard back from my ceramics contact who advised that coating the EVA mat with ceramic would work. You'll find vinyl ceramic on this link... Vinyl Ceramic Coating | Protect Your Vinyl Cushions

    Coating/Protectant for EVA Foam mats

How have the cars worked out, how long has the ceramic been on and are they still protected?

Gelcoat Polish Question - Removed swirls but also deep gloss? - Pics

I would've thought you have the right approach if that boat isn't that bad. There's so much advice knocking around in this business that you've definitely got to be selective about what you take on. It's quite amazing what can be achieved with a wool pad and some compound especially when they...
