Thanks, guys...
Yeah, it does sorta stink... lol
There would have been a bigger blob of product on the ground, but I used a putty knife to scoop it from the driveway to put on the pad... luckily I was only working on what many here would call a beater car.... mine.

Good to know! Back in the day on laquer paint, I used something called Meguiars Mirror Glaze. That was following some kind of generic buffing compound. I mean, back then, I think Meguiars only offered the one product and that was IT!
Now they have umpteen different products with all sorts of...
I guess instant results are good if someone is in the detailing business. I'm not, and I had plenty of time. I actually had pretty good luck with just an orange pad and XMT #4, then, even I, got the need for a little speed and jumped to the yellow and Menzerna Power Gloss. I liked using the #4...
Thanks! I plan on trying some 5.5" pads in the future. Right now I kind of like the 6.5" ones even if they don't spin on the axis. The part that hangs over the 5" backing plate, is pretty handy for bending into creases and for fitting between gaps in molding, etc. That may not be the most...
Bumping this old thread back to the top!
I came back here to find out if my 7424 was broken, because the pads just oscillate and don't really spin on the axis if under any pressure.
It looks like mine is fine unless there has been an update to this thread... ?

An update:
I ended up using an LC yellow pad and Menzerna Power Gloss (followed with XMT #4) and it took the 1500 grit sanding marks out. It took a couple of applications, but it worked. Hooray!
Thanks for the tips on making my PC more versatile...
If you haven't watched this great Porter Cable in Use video, you should:

Easy as pie.... :)
Thanks... so if I'm following this information correctly, all a person needs to do is wet sand down to 3,000 and then follow up with only a mildly abrasive polish using a LC white pad or something? Then go from there with the grey one?
Sounds like it would work. I did go ahead and order a...
Thanks!
From all of my hours scouring the AG website, I missed this. From the item description:
"Foamed Wool Buffing/Polishing Pads are capable of removing 1500 grit scratches, leaving a smooth finish with no hazing and few, if any, compounding swirls."
Sounds like the ticket! And from...
First post and a question!
I've read through many posts in this folder and don't see anyone talking about removing 1500 or 2000 grit color sanding scratches.
Now I figure that a rotary buffer would be be the best bet, but if you HAD to use a PC 7424, what pads and compound/polish would you...
