Ugh - Correcting Paint after "Dealer Prep"

Well, figured I'd post back up here after spending a weekend detailing the truck! I didn't really take many pictures, since I was way too busy (and excited) to worry about it, but I did get a basic before and after at least! Products/ process used Wash (foam cannon/ 2 bucket mehod)...

Ugh - Correcting Paint after "Dealer Prep"

Yeah, there's no telling if the dealer instilled the swirls themselves, at least that day. The previous owner religiously took the truck to the same dealer for oil changes and scheduled maintenance...it all shows up on the CarFax. I have to imagine they may have had it dealer washed at least 6...

Ugh - Correcting Paint after "Dealer Prep"

Wow! Thanks everyone for the insights! I think, since this will be my first detail work on this vehicle, I'm going to go with a few extra steps...foam/wash, ironx, tarx, wash again with a nanoskin (I do indeed have the medium nanoskin mitt), clay (if needed, presuming there will be some...

Ugh - Correcting Paint after "Dealer Prep"

Straight to the point: New-to-me, Black, 2018 F150 Lariat. Picked up two weeks ago. Chrome package (PVD chrome wheels, chrome running boards/ bumpers/ exhaust tip, "plastic chrome" grill, mirror caps, etc.) The dealer ever-so-generously "prepped" it before I took possession, sigh...

    PVD Wheel Chroming

Thanks, Mike! So ultimately, I guess I would just treat "PVD" Chrome like any other painted/ clear coated surface. I ended up using some Meguiars All-Wheel Cleaner (that has the iron decontaminating properties), letting it dwell and "bleed", light agitation with a wheel woolie, and rinse well...

    PVD Wheel Chroming

Bringing this thread back from purgatory :) I am now the proud owner of a new-to-me 2018 F150 Lariat. The original window sticker lists "20" Chrome-Like PVD Wheels". I love the wheels, but they need to be cleaned up and shined. Truck has 36K miles on it, and while the previous owner kept it...

Opti-coat: Fillers, Plastic Trim, and other questions.

Thanks for the replies guys. So, after I pulled it out in the sun for a final once over, I wasn't quite satisfied with the correction step. Although there are no major scratches, I still saw some small swirls in some places, and noticed a small rock chip on the fender. Chalk it up to still...

Opti-coat: Fillers, Plastic Trim, and other questions.

That's what I was thinking. I know OC "self-levels", but it's simply not a thick enough coating to fill in small pits. Thanks to the both of you. So I'm leaning towards Opti-coating the paint, if only for the protection, and the lower rocker panel plastic trim. I'll see what I can do as far...

Opti-coat: Fillers, Plastic Trim, and other questions.

So I have my new 2014 Ruby Red Ford Taurus sitting in the garage right now. As it stands it has had the following done: CG Citrus Wash Iron-X/ Tar-X - Washed once more Nanoskin Mitt/ Clayed in tight areas Polished with M205 and Yellow Softbuff 6" (I used 105 and an LC Orange pad in a few...
