Until I am able to afford a machine should I just wax the car and when I can buy a machine that's when I will do a swirl remover?

Is it possible to do a swirl remover apply by hand? I want to do a good cleaning with swirl remover and then sealant/wax but do not have the funds to purchase a machine polisher.

I noticed the other day that there was something sticky on my passenger seat and was hoping for some advice on how to remove it. The stuff looks to be drying out and turning white at this point. My seats are black upholstery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
