If you need a bonnet and a machine to remove wax or anything else...you applied it improperly

This device can damage your paint and is overkill

While I do agree with the above, I must ask how high do you have your speed set? Using a DA for removing 'wax', you don't need high speed.

OT: P-3's? How long ago? Thinking Adak NAS.

Yeah, the wax was too much and in the sun. Pretty caked on. Luckily it is a 2002 Saturn that I only really want to protect; the car isn't worth much and the paint is okay, but since it will go to my son in a year and a half, I am not worried about using it as my learning vehicle.

I flew in VP-1 out of Whidbey Island 2001-2004.

We lived in South Snohomish County (Brier) for almost 40 years before moving back here. Really miss the NW!

I was curious if you'd been on Adak, just been reliving some of past. Wasn't Navy; semi-lifer Coastie whose ship(s) spent WAY to much time getting gas in Adak and watching you guys doing ASW patrols in some MISERABLE weather.

Understand about getting the wax off. You MAY have to resort to a using an actual (soft) towel if the stuff is really caked on. Not something I'd really recommend (think about leaving tiny scratches behind), but in the case...well sometimes one has to go 'against the grain'.

I use a bonnet for buffing the final wax coat. I put a lambs wool pad on my disc, and cover it with a couple of worn or dirty microfiber bonnets, in essence layering a few bonnets for a thick, soft cushion. The last bonnet is the newest and cleanest and there's no slack in it since it's fairly taut as it's stretched over the preceding cloths. The extra cushioning allows me to apply a little more pressure if necessary without stopping the machine rotation. My speed is set just under "5".

So far, so good...I get very good results.
