So it has been lawn care season for a while now Im the MAN:awesome::awesome:Im the MAN:righton:
(i love it)

So what is everyone doing to keep the yard looking awsome?

I have seeded this year, as well as fertalized twice with scotts.

Not to brag but my lawn is green, full and thick... man i love grass lol

So whats everyone else doing?

Well due to the monsoon season I haven't had to water once... but to start in March I put down Corn Gluten Meal as an organic pre-emergant. I sprayed Compost Tea about 3 times after that. Then every month I fertilize with Cotton Seed Meal. My soil was way alkaline and CSM is slightly acidic so I'm bringing my Ph down slowly. I usually mow high but my lawn is really high right now since we've had 17 or so days of rain. Not much car detailing going on because I'm too busy building an Ark!

haha..now you have the lawn care bug..

for un-wanted weeds i ferterlize at the appropiate times with the first application beginning in spring. to prevent the lawn from burning .i don't cut the lawn to short..water a little more frequently on hotters days.. preferably early morning or later in the day when the sun goes down....also use crub control at the appropiate time... and lets not forget a nice clean edge done with an edger of your choice :)..

besure to keep the blade of the lawn mower nice and sharp

i like taking care of the lawn .... Ask AL-53 :D

Ehhhh nothing much with the water restrictions here lol, but all the rain the last month or so has done a miracle, grass sections that were dead, and plants that were wiliting are now green and healthy. We have a ton of palm trees on our property.

well I guees i didnt put down everything.

I also water my grass twice a week. It has rained alot here so often it is already wet so little watering is required.

I also make sure not to cut the grass to short. It scalps and burns the grass. It looks horible for a couple days.

I am basicly a glorified landscaper in the summer so i understand the need for a sharp blade. i make sure to sharpen it atleast 3 times a season.

so soonermike, im curious about the system you use. I like the idea of organic for my lawn. I try not to use any un needed chemicals. I would be curious to see how well it works (im sure it works well but every lawn is a little diffrent). Maybe ill have to give it a shot

My neighbors literally "detail" their grass every other day. I'm sick of even hearing lawn mover. And that's when there is a brand new C7 vette sitting in their garage...

I've got the most ocd lady across from me, she's pry in her 60's or 70's and is literally out everyday picking up every single leaf by hand and putting them in a garbage bag.....

It's year round mowing where I live. Every week without fail until "winter" which means every other week for a month or two. Keep the sprinkler system in good working order, fertilize twice a year, and you can damn near hear it grow!

HUH ?? C7 is only in developmental stages currently !

This is a great topic for me. My yard is being landscaped right now, retaining block wall, flower beds, fire pit, sprinkler system etc. I have 1/2 acre of sod that is to be delivered on the 5th. I hope to have a lawn/yard very soon. We moved in to our new home about 1 1/2 years ago and wanted to get the yard in immediately but because our children could get 1 more years use out of it we put a basketball court in last summer. It was an either/or situation. Fortunately we live in a rural community that didn't require a completed yard before occupying the home. It's been a struggle to keep the weeds down and to have just a "flat dirt" yard. It's taken this long for my checkbook to recover but I'm happy we did it this way. We've paid cash every step of the way while building this house. Not having a mortgage is something I would strongly recommend if you can find a way to swing it. I've got some nice yard equipment that hasn't been used in all this time. I never thought I would say this but I'm looking forward to mowing the lawn.

I also fertilize with Scotts. Here's a tip that I think I got off a bag of fertilizer years ago. Scotts website is on the bag somewhere. Get on and somewhere is a place to subscribe to their notifications. You tell them your location, your type of lawn, any type of weed problems you face, and what pest problems you have. They e-mail me three to four times a year and tell me what to use (their products of course but fairly so). They have also told me not to use certain products now due to heat. It's a neat program. No charge to do it.

Some people I tell ya, some people...

I used to use Scotts and Milorganite a couple times a year but I haven't done anything with my lawn in the past couple of years because I've got too many trees towering over my yard making it impossible for the grass to grow. I mulch all the leaves with my mower and don't want to put down any sod until I can afford to have some of the trees removed. Weeds, weeds, weeds:mad: Leaves, leaves, leaves. I also don't want to put down any sod until I install a sprinkler system, which will be next year, when I'll be able to afford to get the trees out too. This time 2 years from now I'll be lookin' good. Right now I just cut the weeds once a month, whether they need it or not!:D

You can see the "line" between my yard and my neighbor's

I tried the go to Lowe's and buy Scott's fertilizer route for a couple years with some progress but not anywhere near what I wanted. Then this late winter/early spring I really did a lot of research on organic lawn care and my lawn has just improved by 1000%. Tall, thick, deep green, and the weeds are so few I can literally just pull a few out once a week. BTW, It's still muddy so I didn't edge...

And then I'll get a new roof (it's about that time too) for the cost of the 2% deductible, which is less than 1/2 of what I would pay for a new one!;)

Basically the same as mentioned. One thing I do is mow in a different direction each time so I do not get tracks or lines from the tires. Can really be seen more if people use riding mowers. Examples are front to back, side to side, diagonal (sp?) one way then diagonal the other. In the back I have spots of excess nitrogen (from the dog) how do you minimize these?
