GG9, have a VW and a GMC. Looking for some general polishing pads and polish. Daily drivers. Light marring.

Also looking for a super fine polish and pad. My GMC is gonna be around for a long time so looking for a lighter polish to conserve clear and maximize gloss.

Thanks in advance!!

For light marring, I'd start with Sonax Perfect Finish on a medium/intermediate polishing pad, then inspect. Something like the new Rupes DA Intermediate (teal color), the ShineMate blue or Lake Country SDO Orange. In the Griots line, it would be the yellow or orange. If you need more, step up to a firmer pad like the ShineMate yellow, Lake Country SDO blue or even the Rupes yellow wool.

If you still need more correction, swap to something like Griot's Fast Correcting Creme, again starting with a medium pad and working up or down if needed.

As for a fine finishing compound, Carpro Reflect all day, every day! This stuff is stupid easy to use, will NOT dust and has a buttery smooth wipe off. Team with a foam finishing pad such as the Rupes DA white or yellow, ShineMate orange or red, or Griots black. On medium US paint, I used Reflect with a ShineMate orange.

If you want to stay with Griots you can use their perfecting cream and the yellow pad

I have the GG9 and I used LC orange flat pads with the griots FCC and polish on my wife's mustang. It dusted a little, but that was my first time using any type of polisher. It turned out pretty good.

I have the GG15, so not a direct comparison, but I've found Griots BOSS Perfecting Cream on a Rupes Yellow pad to be a really good solution for a one-step light polish on soft/medium hardness paints.

VW paint can be pretty hard and I've heard similar things about GM paint as well. You may need to step down to the BOSS Correcting Cream for starters. Hopefully you won't need to get as aggressive as the Fast Correcting Cream. That is if you are interested in using the Griots family of products.

When I had a black metallic VW I found Lake Country white ThinPro and Flat pads combined with Blackfire's Compound was a great one-step solution as well. The Blackfire Compound isn't very aggressive, more like Griots Correcting Cream, but it finishes down really nicely. This could be another option.

3D One is still my polish of choice.

Great luck using it with Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber pads for a wide range of defects, but seems to excel in the moderately heavy to medium amounts. The good news is that it usually finishes down nice enough to go to protection after. I have had that combo leave it's share of marring too, so it's good to have som finer foam pads in the event you need to refine.

For foam pads I've been leaning toward the Lake Country CCS. Just the original like, not the HDO/SDO. I like the green, blue, and black, but you'd probably just need the blue or back for finer finishing.

In the past couple of years I haven't needed anything finer than 3D One, but in the event I do, I have 3D AAT502 on hand. (just like I keep ACA500 around for heavy corrections).

I stay with One because it doesn't dust, and doesn't stain trim.

If not over used (apply too much polish to pad), and not overheated, it's super easy to remove. (Use too much and you'll be wiping forever)

I also love that it doesn't stick to the paint. I used to be really good at using Meguiar's M205 and Ultimate Polish, but when I try lately, they leave deposits that cement themselves to the paint.

I couldn't telly you how many cars I've corrected, "one stepped", and finished with 3D One. Just one of the tools for the day job, and I use it for private clients as well.

My VW likes the Sonax Perfect Finish. I use Jescar pads on a Griots G9 and G8. Love the results everytime.

Good advice. I used perfect finish on a polishing pad on the VW. Removed the marring and left an excellent finish

A super fine polish would be something like Rupes UNO pure. The softest pad on the market is Carpro's white gloss pad but it will do nothing to remove any minor defects. I would just stick with a Rupes white or similar, which is relatively firm.

You can also just keep using something like Perfect Finish. With a polishing pad you won't be able to measure much if any paint removal. Its still relatively mild but will clean up the paint much better.

That all said Rupes pads are relatively thick and dense and made for long throw polishers. Not sure how the G9 will handle them. Maybe look into lake country's flats, CCS or the SDO..The Griots pads for instance are thin.

btw Griots polishes are well regarded as well. The pads are also fine - i have a set.

Sounds like you have reccomended options. I wont comment on that since i have no experiece with your type of machine tool.

What i will say regaurding presearving the clear on your truck. Maybe reevaluate the way you touch your paint. Especially the wash routine.

For example, one of our vehicles is a straight black paint color..and i after the 1st year we had it i noticed very light marring. Realized it was from how i wash. I have since changed my routine and now after a year i have no marring at all on the paint.
