I was doing a full detail on a Grand Am that had the front painted recently and looked much better than the rest of the car. During the wash phase, I bumped (very lightly) against the right mirror and felt it give. I wiggled it to see what the problem was and it came off in my hand. I wasn't expecting it to come off and didn't have a good grip on it so it hit the floor and broke. I called and ordered one immediatly and was gonna put it on before delivering the vehicle. So I finish washing and start polishing. Going from the left fender to the door, I pressed the mirror to close the door (lightly) and OMG the left one came off in my hand!!! I looked carefully and both mirrors had been broken in the accident and glued on with black silicone, grr. Some body guy just cost me $100. I was hard pressed to finish with any dignity and totally felt like it was amatuer detailing 101 at my house. I ordered the second mirror and finished the job. I delivered the car and explained what happened and told the customer I'd be back the following monday with both mirrors to install. She was surprisingly inderstanding and said the car looked great. When I showed up monday, I got her keys and went to work on the install. 10 min later I go in to apologise again and she meets me at the door with a check for both mirrors and $20 for my time to install explaining that after talking to her husband, they think the right was already cracked and wanted to pay for it. I think I did the right thing since the damage happened while in my possesion but when she did the right thing it floored me. Most people would have cussed me out and never used me again, not caring that the body guy was at fault. Just when you think people aren't good anymore, surprise
