Okay guys... got my PC7424xp and my wolfgang duo the other day and decided to try to polish my wifes 2009 BMW 328i (Black Of course!!!) Anyways, I've watched video after video and read many posts and articles about the process.. On to my problem. I've been polishing the hood, did my test spot and the swirls were gone... Put the halogens to it and could tell a huge difference from the rest of the hood I hadn't touched. But then i started seeing straight line scratches in the area i had completed. Put two and two together and figured out that I'm leaving scratches with my towels when i remove the polish!!!! I've tried three or four different microfibers (double softs etc.) and everytime i see minor marks from the towel. I know they are from my towles because i only try to go in straight lines to prevent swirling!!!! So i feel like im waisting my time polishing... HELP!!!!!!

Try folding your MFs a few more times to get more cushion while you buff off your polishing residue. Also, try using less product so you will have less to buff off. You could also try using some sort of chemical to help strip the polishing residue like IPA diluted to 12% or CarPro Eraser. This will make it much easier to remove the dried polish without any pressure from your towels and further prep the paint for your last step wax or sealant. Good luck!

I had the EXACT same problem and I went through every microfiber towel I had! I found relief in the supreme buff microfiber towels (MF-530). That and letting the towel do the work and not pressing as hard to remove the WGTSR.

Or just don't buff at all and use a WOWA sealant....

I have mezerna powerlock sealant to go on after my finishing glaze... are you saying i can do directly over the finishing glaze with the sealant without buffing the glaze off w/ microfiber??

What kind of MF towels do you have?
When you did your test spot and wiped then did you use the FG & wipe clean and still have the same problem?
A good MF should not scratch your paint, make sure no edges of the MF come in contact with the paint.

No, do not do that. You need clean paint to bond a sealant to. I think he was saying to not polish at all and just apply a wipe on walk away sealant and call it good ...... I guess if that all he wants then more power to him.:dunno:

Use a quick detailer to aid in removal of the polish residue. Also when applying a sealant use a very soft pad on speed 3.

What kinda of towel would you guys recommend. Im also looking to replace what i have with new ones.

Yes, after finishing glaze i wipe and have lines... as far as micro fibers i have several double soft from local pep boys, and also i have some mango towels from autogeek, and also several meguairs microfibers as well as others... I do classify them into cleaning towels and polishing... maybe my polishing towels aren't as good as i thought??

Don't let the polish dry. Wipe of wet. Use a clean, soft MF and some 12% IPA spray to see how that works.
I really like the MF towels I posted above!

Chris (right?)

Take a deep breath!
The guys will help ya trough it........

First things first- what kind of towels are using?

are you using an aid to remove polish oils? ( like carpro eraser or ipa)

most black paints are soft and it could be that your putting those scratches there with the way your trying to buff things off.

Don't panic we have all been through it and we can help you through it.

...... Also some good pictures of the problem will be very helpful:Picture:

No what I am saying is a polish like blackfire TPnS and using their polymer spray to remove it, and the sealant.....no buff...amazing finish....no scratches

You may be picking up small pieces of abrasive (dirt etc.) from where you are leaving the towels while you polish. You may need a fluffy micro fiber mat towel not a flat mat towel. For sure remove the polish while it is still wet.

well, that in itself has become the second sore spot of the night.... Trying to capture swirl marks on the hood of a car with a sony cybershot, while trying to hold a set of halogens over the hood to reflect the swirls???? (no luck) sorry, but apparently i also need to read the newb thread on taking pics of swirls!!
Anyhow, gonnna give it another shot tomorrow. One positive from the whole situation is that even though the hood has towel marks it still looks 100 times better than the rest of the car!!! Especially under the halogens!!!! :buffing:
By the way guys, just wanted to thank you all for responding so qucikly, you autogeekers are awesome in my book!!!:dblthumb2:
TO BE CONTINUED.......

The super fine scratches ended up conning out of my paint after the WGFG.

went ahead and tried all 3 steps... WG TSR, WG FG and then the mezerna powerlock. 99% of original swirls are gone, only my towel marks remain!!!
