    Living Social

Wow. I think I still would've said something about the "double your prices so we can advertise 50% off" being ethically questionable, but maybe that's just me. That's about the only "wrong" thing they said to you in the first place. I just hate businesses that take advantage of consumers or...

    Opti-Coat Carbon Fiber Exhaust tips?

That's going to look sweet sticking out the back of the C6Z.... you doing any other rear fascia mods as well?

    Cordless Buffing/Detailing What's the deal?

I've been eyeing the new Meguiar's DA drill attachment; I think it might be more effective on a 19.2v cordless drill in a pinch.

Michigan/Midwest "Detail Fest" for Summer 2011?

Looks like 2012 is going to be the year to do it; I hear rumor that we'll be having a Midwest DetailFest with seminars (sponsored by 3D/Autopia.org). In the meantime, I will be at NAIAS in Detroit on Sunday, January 15th if anyone wants to meet up there. Guess I'm not familiar with that...

    Ordered a new compressor

I've got an old Craftsman like that, mine is a 1HP 12 gallon horizontal unit with the DeVilbiss tag on it as well. Recovered it from the basement of our family business when it closed, gave it an oil and filter change, dressed the belt, fixed a corroded and leaking air fitting, and it purrs...

Do any of you do this?

I would be VERY leery of messing with battery cables unless you absolutely have to. Make sure if you use a charger it is an electronic "smart charger" especially if you're working on a German. It's way too easy to fry expensive components of the electrical system if you jump or charge a battery...

    Grit Guard with Rinseless Wash?

Doubt that would work if you have a Gamma Seal lid on your wash buckets.... the rim of the seal would interfere with the mounting screw for the dirt dropper.

    Grit Guard with Rinseless Wash?

I never do a wash involving bucket(s) without a Grit Guard.

Extreme Practice: What I did NOT do to a Chevy POS

Sorry to hear about your Audi, but excellent work on that Chevy! Sometimes it's fun to work on a project like that; it's a totally unique kind of challenge. Incidentally this truck reminds me a lot of my '98 S10 Blazer. I'd be lying if I said I miss that thing:

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

I thought Gearwrench was making Craftsman's ratcheting combo wrenches (if not other wrenches as well)?

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

I really have very few reservations about Harbor Freight's higher end hand tools; they have the same lifetime guarantee as Craftsman and are typically priced either the same or slightly less. If the choice is a Chinese-made Craftsman or HF's Pittsburgh Professional, I'll take the HF tool and...

Which polish/wax/sealant combo would specifically make Grabber Blue look amazing?

If you want "glow" you're probably after a harder wax with a high carnauba content, as opposed to a soft wax with lots of solvents or polymers in it. I typically consider soft waxes and sealants to have more of a plastic-wrapped high gloss look as opposed to a deep glow. Since it's not a...

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

The mid 80s is right around the time when Sears stopped engineering and manufacturing their own products in certain segments, too. Kenmore appliances are built by the cheapest bidder -- Whirlpool, GE, Maytag, Black&Decker, etc., Craftsman lawn equipment is made by Toro, MTD, Cub Cadet, etc. but...

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

Yeah, really. Even Matco/Snap-On/MAC/Cornwell are selling some stuff that is Chinese made. There are some of Craftsman's tools still made in the USA, you just have to look at what you're buying.

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

I doubt it's going to be THAT bad. Though I will admit I got a Sears gift card for Christmas that I made sure to use right away just in case. If they do go bankrupt I'm going to be on the lookout for clearance priced Craftsman tools and pick up anything I can get that is/was still made in USA.

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

That's what I've heard... the talk is that they may shutter the Sears brand altogether and only keep K-Mart open since it's more profitable.

    Logo Design?

Guys, head on over to AutopiaForums and look up YNOT. He is a graphic designer, and has done work for many detailers, including my logo (which is in my avatar).

    Sears, What Went Wrong...

Interesting; it must depend on the store, because I have never gotten that smell or impression in our local Sears store.
