Exiting the business, selling everything, and thank you to everybody

I second SlightlyBent's suggestion about meditative detailing. My Saturday morning detailing of my car allow me to relax and unwind from my work at the office.

Noob warning; are these scratches too deep?

Would you get the clear from a dealer in a bottle or from an autoparts store in a spray can ? Brand ? I have always got matching paint in a bottle from the dealer, bullt it up, sanded and polished it down. Works pretty good but not perfect. How does using clear compare to using matching...

    Blot drying technique

I use a combination of blow drying the side panels and 4 waffle weave mf towels on the hood, roof and trunk. I leave the towels on for 1 to 2 minutes while I take care of the windows, etc. Moving around the towels seems to push around a water film so I let the towels do the work and let them...

If you like incandescent bulbs, better stock up

My bad, according to the above CNET article the 100 watt bulbs were required to be more effecient and the new law now requires 60 an 40 watt bulbs to be more efficient.

If you like incandescent bulbs, better stock up

In the CNET article above, you will find you are being forced to buy a more efficient bulb (incandescent, halogen, CFL, or LED) at a slightly higher or significantly higher price but in the end you will actually save you money as the life of the new bulbs are significantly greater than the...

Montana's Boars Hair Brush vs Griot's MF Brush

I will keep the Montana Brush and maybe find a use for it in the future. I mainly like experimenting around comparing different products and methods.

Montana's Boars Hair Brush vs Griot's MF Brush

I purchased a Griot's MF Brush and a Montana 10" Boar Hairs Brush both with telescopic handles to wash the roofs and lower portion of the side panels (hate bending over while going around the car) of the cars and SUV I wash. The 2nd picture is of a fairly dirty rear bumper. The third...

    Grit guard filter

I think it is not a bad idea. The dirt particles will become in trapped in the filter and swirling caused by rubbing your mitt against the grit guard will not refloat the dirt particles.

How to wash a car with a foam gun

I do not know about Mike, but I use both sides of 4 Megs Wash mitts, working from the top down changing to a new mitt once both sides are showing dirt. Basically a zero bucket method. Car is very clean. I Ordered a boar's hear brush with telescoping pole during the sale here and I will...

    Wet Sanding Small Scratch/Nick - 2013 Suburban

My prep includes claying and 205 polishing (to remove wax, sealant, etc.) before applying touch up paint. I use GG touch up applicators but I will try a fine artist brush the next time I apply touch up paint. Use Megs Unigrit sanding blocks instead of sanding paper Meguiars Unigrit Sanding...

    Griot's Pads

How do Griot's Orange and Red pads stack up against the other pads that seem to be favored here ? For the record I have been using them for over a year now with no problems. Am I missing something?

    paint coating hype

There may be a way to tell with ULW. After about 24 hours of applying it the paint has a hard candy coat appearance (think MMs) that some like, some do not. That appearance is still there, so hopefully so is the ULW

    paint coating hype

Honestly, I do not know. But, when I bought my black accord last year, I told the dealer I would not sign any papers, until the detailers finished detailing it and if I found any swirls (inspecting in full sunlight) I would not sign the papers. They took 4 hours and the car looked fantastic...

    clay vs other options

So where do the particles that have been pulled out of the paint go? Are they safely absorbed into the nano skin ? With clay they are kind of absorbed into the clay. I ordered a nano skin sponge but have not tried it yet.

    paint coating hype

I have been using megs ultimate liquid wax, which is a synthetic polymer wax (which I think is more of a sealant than a wax?). It is not expensive and from my experience can last 6 months or more. Basically once a year I wash, clay, polish (205) and apply ULW. For the next year I simply...

Wheel cleaner vs just soap & water?

I use regular megs car wash soap, wheel brush, and 2 Griot's MF finger mitts to scrub (and pick up) the wheel dust that is caked on. Works fine. I have tried Sonax and Megs wheel cleaners, they smell nasty, would not want to get that stuff on my fingers and would not it washing down my gutters...
