I think it is not a bad idea. The dirt particles will become in trapped in the filter and swirling caused by rubbing your mitt against the grit guard will not refloat the dirt particles.

How do Griot's Orange and Red pads stack up against the other pads that seem to be favored here ? For the record I have been using them for over a year now with no problems. Am I missing something?

How does griot's orange (for polish) and red (for wax) pads compare ? And why would the ccs and HT pads be better ?

There may be a way to tell with ULW. After about 24 hours of applying it the paint has a hard candy coat appearance (think MMs) that some like, some do not. That appearance is still there, so hopefully so is the ULW
