It's very messy. When someone suggests covering the paint do it! You're frequently spritzing water and the slurry "paste" slings everywhere.
Also, I find it to be a slow process of abrading material, unlike paint. It takes me a while i.e. several several passes to see results. Be patient.
In my experience in Tampa UV attacks the horizontal surfaces faster i.e. hood, roof and rear deck lid. I would focus on keeping those protected religously.
If you can manage at least a biweekly wash and ensure those surfaces are protected with a robust LSP.
I've kept cars in the family for...
Just had another old, but clean orange flat pad give up the ghost on the velcro adhesive.
I cut into quarters and use it as my tire coating applicater.
Wow! Detailed by someone else while still brand new! Hack, to say the least. How does a "detailer" not see what they did. SMH.
Beautiful results now and a good refresher on non German paint, huh?
Your work astounds me, Scottie.
While I can't imagine doing an entire vehicle by hand i did a long time ago and still remember.
I also still hand polish around tight spots. The smallest i go with my machines is 2" pads. I can finesse those into pretty tight areas but i still need to finish some areas by hand and a mf...
Sonax initially offered products geared to rotary action machines. In my experience both Cut Max and Perfect Finish are even better with my rotary but work great on dual action machines as well.
Sonax later came out and either said their existing products also work with DA machines OR they...
I hear ya, Nate. Me too 99% of the time a single product does what i want. Especially since the explosion of products.
In this case i tried both One and DG501 individually for test spots however when combined gave signicantly better results after careful inspection. Paint had moderate oxidation.
I had a '59 Ford Fairlane this week and after several test spots arrived at 3D One mixed with DG501 on an orange LC HDO pad. And I mean several tests with a bunch of products/pads.
I know those 2 products are similar but together they yielded the best 1 step with brilliance and shine.

I'm still wrestling with the thought of just claying without iron decon first. I'm thinking about picking up iron in my clay and having those metal bits marring my paint more than the other organic (and softer) bits.
No? Yes?
Valid points, 2black. And, i hate when i do this but sometimes I read the OP and then jump in with my perspective without reading every other response.
I'm going to duplicate Eldo's experiment myself. I need to see if I'm wasting money.
I had a detailer tell me a few years ago that brake...
I personally like to remove imbedded ferrous metal particles as part of my decon process and before i clay.
My reason is 2 fold. Some iron particles go below the paint surface abd clay simply breaks it off. I like to attempt dissolving all or most of it below the surface. I certainly don't...
I've been playing with 3D One and REALLY like that too. When it comes down to a relatively quick 1 step on a non metallic black customer vehicle I reach for Perfect Finish basically because of familiarity and combined pad behavior.
In my experience that's what it comes down to for me i.e...
Not really responding to the OP question from 2016 but my current winner for "best" final polish is Sonax Perfect Finish.
Now...as waxmaster pointed out very early on in this thread, I haven't tried 100's of products to derive my answer. I have tried many in the past 25 years and PF is the...
I am drawn to YT channels that share the specific science of the processes. I still am drawn to Larry Kosilo at Ammo and Todd Cooperider at Esoteric. Are they selling product? Of course they are but they explain a lot that can then be applied to the products YOU are using.

I now clean my nozzles out promptly and really haven't had a problem since. As soon as I'm done i put the nozzle in my distilled water bottle and give it a good 10-15 squirts. I then put the nozzle in my bottle of Eraser and about 5-7 squirts. Then inside to flush it good with warm water...
