Daily driven Supra gets some love

Technically it's not a daily driver anymore, but it was for many years. This is a good friend's car and as a favor I took it home to diagnose/fix a boost issue and give it a mini makeover. When I got it home the first thing I had to do was clean the engine bay! Since I would be leaning over...

Review: Meguiars Non-Acid Wheel & Tire Cleaner (D-143)

D143 is my go-to. I haven't found Wheel Brightener to work any better for me, and I prefer the slight foaming of D143. I've always used a brush to help the process though. Never could get away with no agitation to get wheels really clean. Plus, D143 makes a good tire cleaner. Two birds...

    Towel holograms from compound removal?

What you see in the video is after Griots FCC with a Griots white pad. It does leave a slight haze in the paint - a test spot with a final polish revealed some extra clarity and darkness. I've seen plenty of compound haze in my time with M105 and the holograms I saw yesterday don't remind me...

    Towel holograms from compound removal?

I didn't notice it with the garage lighting or inspection lighting. I noticed it in the morning when I opened the garage door and the low sun shone in. Maybe I'll do a test spot with Eraser and see if it goes away in that spot tomorrow morning.

    Towel holograms from compound removal?

I've never seen this before. When the light hits the paint in the right way I see a hologram effect. I'm using a DA. Given how easily the swirls and haze came out of the paint, I suspect it's on the soft side and my theory is wiping the compound off the car is causing these subtle marks...

Microfiber towels for ceramic paint coatings - How to care for - by Mike Phillips

I suppose I did go on a little tangent there. A little bit of free association regarding SiO2 based products and towels. :) I was picturing in my mind the possibility of small particles hardening in the nap of a mf towel when using a coating maintenance product, and whether those hardened...

Microfiber towels for ceramic paint coatings - How to care for - by Mike Phillips

Great article Mike, very practical advice. I've thought a bit about this recently and wonder what your take is on towels used for SiO2 maintenance products such as CarPro Reload, Gyeon Cure, etc. It seems a little inefficient to get a soak bucket ready and do a small load of laundry each time...

    After wash drying technique?

As Desertnate alluded to, I'd first look at why you're having to remove soap residue with your drying towel. My first thoughts are either the soap is allowed to dry on the paint in the sun, or a spot was missed while rinsing. I do even my small cars in 2 or sometimes 3 sections depending on...

Testing LSP maintenance products for dust attraction.

This is something that's been on my mind lately and I've experimented a little bit with it. My understanding is that no product can repel dust, in spite of some of them claiming to have anti-static properties. Dust rapidly accumulates on cars here in the CA desert, even in the garage. In...

Carnauba dusting problem - What is the solution to avoid and protect our business?

I'm in the midst of a little bit of testing regarding this. You might be referencing a video with a black Camaro in it? My theory after watching that video was that the "other product" (which I forget) was attracting dust, rather than Ultimate Fast Finish repelling dust. So I'm putting UFF to...

    Headlight Correction - My Method

I'm thinking about trying this kit next, which comes with sanding blocks and a coating: Meguiars Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit

    Headlight Correction - My Method

Good stuff. I tend to treat plastic lenses like paint, and just use my DA with a polish/compound followed by a sealant. It tends to work quickly. I've had one stubborn car (which sits outside) where the headlights turn yellow and cloudy after a month or two no matter what sealant I use. I'm...

Better Look- Menzerna Power Lock or Wolfgang Deep Gloss?

I've used both PowerLock and WDGPS 3.0 (though never on the same car for a direct comparison). Both are very easy to apply and remove, but I have had a couple cases where PowerLock didn't "take" properly somehow and water beading was short-lived (I use CarPro Eraser after polishing to prep the...

    Review: Carpro RESET

Bringing this thread back up again. I want to ask how you know that Reset contains SLES, and whether there are any car wash solutions you like that do not have it. I have noticed Reset dries out my skin after a wash. I just checked the bottles of all my car wash solutions and they all have...

    Tiny spots from waterless wash.

I believe I diluted correctly. I'm usually pretty careful with that kind of stuff and don't rush myself. I had wondered if the polycharged additives in UWW+ might have anything to do with these spots. Is there an outstanding waterless wash that doesn't have any protection ingredients? You...

Coatings, schmoatings: 100% carnauba wax shine!

It's a great look for sure, and a fun wax to apply. That's a great looking Camaro btw! I did this MX-5 with 2 coats of P21S a while back:

    Tiny spots from waterless wash.

Some months ago I tried a waterless wash for the first time. I used Ultima Waterles Wash Plus Concentrate, diluted it with distilled water, and used plenty of fresh clean quality microfibers, turning to a clean side for each swipe, swiping only one direction, doing a light buff off with a...

2007 350Z Weekend Driver Paint Correction

Did they import any to the Philippines? Here in the states the 350Z is a great used car value right now. Just have to be a little patient to find a well kept car sometimes. The 2007-2008 cars, like this one, have a much improved engine and usually cost a bit more. I still use and enjoy my...
