    OTC Degreaser

Zep Citrus Degreaser is pretty much the best OTC cleaner I have found after going through Purple Power and a bunch of others. It is cheap too at less than $10 per gallon and is dilutable.

    Every weekend...

Exactly. Even if vehicles offer diminishing returns with age and mileage, taking care of them rewards you with a higher resale value in the end over a compareable car that was not taken care of. You may not need to go to the relative extreme that we go to but even just an average wash and wax...

    Question about ISP/ wipedown

Be careful about using more powerful IPA over 50/50. In certain conditions and certain paints, I have seen 91% and even 70% IPA leave what looks like stains that can only be removed by a chemical paint cleanser or at worst, another round of polishing. 50/50 may take a couple extra wipedowns but...

    some detailing questions

Exactly my sentiments, I always do wheels last for most cars except for cars where the wheels are heavily soiled. Then I dedicate a seperate step for them. I too use the leftover soapy water from the washing stage for wheels as I feel it wastes less product and deletes an additional step in the...

Request a product to be reviewed

Are these pads for sale yet? I saw the thread Mike posted but I have never seen them mentioned since. I would love to buy one and try them out.

Test spot with my new polisher. (newbie)

6 passes is not enough to break down the polish effectively. You should work the XMT polish until it goes clear which is when you know that the diminishing abrasives are fully broken down. This could also be the reason for not achieving the results you are after. Try it again, working the polish...

    My LP640 Photo Shoot

Now that you mentioned a few of those things, I can see them now in the pictures (steering wheel sounds interesting!). I bet that car sounds incredible, I sure could fall asleep at night to that sound alone. I got into detailing for your reasoning too, I reasoned that you can make a one time...

Where is your user name from?

My user name came from my car which is a 1996 Saab 900se, and my first name is Christian. I am highly original, I know. ;)

    My LP640 Photo Shoot

You deserve a lot of respect for learning how to detail on a car of this caliber. Most owners of cars like your LP640 would rather pay someone to do it as opposed to taking the time to learn how to care for their car instead. Congrats! I am curious though, what did you have done to it that...

    Bad CCS 6.5 Orange Pads

I have and still love all my CCS pads but Chemical Guys Hexlogic pads are much better. I am getting more and more and love them as they perform time after time and have not imploded like my white CCS pads have been doing lately even with more abuse and are very high quality.

Melt and re-pour Carnauba paste wax

If your 915 has loose chunks in the tin, that is most likely from getting knocked around or shock from being dropped as I have never seen any 915 have that happen naturally. You would not ruin the wax either; consider that this is how they are produced in the first place.

How long does it usually take you guys?

It really depends on what services you will perform, how streamlined your process is, and what products you use. For my car, I can't seem to do a wash any quicker than an hour and a half. For most interior/exterior details (wash, wax, interior), it takes me roughly 4-5 hours depending on the...

Melt and re-pour Carnauba paste wax

I am glad you got it in one piece! I should check the off topic section more often, especially with all your future concoctions. I never took the wax out of the container so I never knew what was hiding under there, but thanks for showing how to double boil as I have been curious about that...

I think you can finish with M105...

Haha, I was going to mention that I could hear Dana 'rocketing' towards this thread to interject. Z-oh-6: it is always a matter of searching for the last few % of perfect correction that is the hardest choice to make; it looks great now but it is up to the person correcting as to whether they...

    Liquid Glass Legend

What if you have PTFE suspended in solvents of a typical sealant? It would not necessarily need to adhere to a paint surface but rather be contained within the layer of polymers and chemicals left behind as the protective property of sealant. Since PTFE particles possess the anti-stick...

    Dealership Tire Dressing

^Try some degreaser from any local autoparts store like Zep purple or citrus degreaser, those are two serious cleaners and should take care of even the more stubborn crap on the tires. The problem with dealer applied dressings is not that they are any more resistant to cleaners, but more in...

I'm a bit hesistant to buy waxes...

I have yet to find any waxes that mute metallic flake. I normally use Pinnacle Sig. Series II or Collinite 915 on metallic cars and they produce stunning results everytime.

    Review: DP Waterless Autowash

I have been using rinseless washes for the last two years on my car and my parents cars exclusively because they work. If a car is extremely dirty, I will use a traditional car wash solution however 95% of what I do can be tackled with ONR. I wouldn't recommend using this type of product on a...
