    Prepping for paint

Are you just scuffing the paint to promote adhesion or are you planning on taking it down the the level of the factory primer? If just scuffing just use a scuff pad. if taking it down to the original primer start with 120, then 320. Is the new paint going to have metallic flakes in it? Then you...

    Polishing is back breaking

The single greatest tool to help me out after back surgery was my 4 post lift. I just raise and lower the car to keep the work surface directly in front of me. For the roof I use a platform and let the weight of the tool do most of the hard work. (mainly needed on SUV's)

What is the least aggressive form of sanding clearcoat? Dry sanding or wet sanding?

5000 grit wet sanding discs. Barely even makes the paint cloudy. Generally used as a last step before polishing.

    Removing tape residue - help!!

I use (since I have a lot of it in gallon cans) either Naptha or Odorless Mineral Spirits. Neither one will harm the paint surface. Both will dissolve the glue. I have found both to work great for decal sticker removal too. I dribble a little along the top of the decal and slowly peel it off...

Fastest way to dry foam pads?

Best way is to buy lots more pads so you never run out of clean, dry pads. But what I do with mine is to wash them in a pad washer. Spin them pretty dry in a pad washer. Take them into the house and set them on a nice clean bath towel. Put another clean towel over them. Sit on them. Then move...

DIY 1 and 2 inch foam pads

I took some 4 inch foam pads over to a friend's shop and tried two different methods. First I chucked the post on the backing place into a lathe and at only 300rpm I cut the pad with a single sided razor blade clamped in a steady rest. Then just slowly turned the traverse until it had cut all...

Need new pressure washer, any recommendation?

I've posted this before, but it bears repeating. Go to Costco and buy whatever they currently have. Keep the box with all paperwork and your receipt. When it fails (and all inexpensive electric pressure washers seem to fail) return it and get another. Repeat as needed. Costco has a lifetime...

Where do you get your Distilled Water?

Walmart. A neighbor loves the place and he brings me back whatever I put on a list. I almost always have four 2.5 gallon dispensers on hand.

Trying to buy my firs house.

The original deed on my house is from 1927 and it came into my family in 1938. My house that I use as my office is next door and was built in 1926. Same weird deed and no HOA. The deed states that we cannot sell the house to "Coloreds, Chinamen, or the Irish" I bet that's no longer...
