What does a wheels maintenance wash look like, versus the deep clean?

I hear that. Wash in front, store everything in the basement at the back of the house. No garage. I have to make several trips to get everything to the front of the house before I can actually begin washing. Considering an outdoor storage container for the front to hold buckets and tools.

How do the rinseless washes work? Is it like a normal soap, but it doesn’t leave water spots?

I drive a hatchback Mazda 3 and wind up spending 1.5-2 hours on my maintenance washes. This includes a dedicated wheel wash, foam presoak, two-bucket wash, dry, spray-on maintenance wax and windows. How long do your maintenance washes take? Any tips for speeding things up?

Thanks! The reason I ask is because the polisher has a counterweight (I think) below the backing plate that says something like “Use only 6 inch backing plate.”

Is a 3 inch plate safe to use on a 6 inch polisher?
