    2019 Mazda Miata

To add to this- both these colors are actually 3-4 stage when it comes to respraying/repairing, and highly difficult to spray at that!! On top of that- the 2019 formulation of Soul Red is completely different than the 2015-2018 formulation- and currently one of the toners/tints to make the...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

From yesterday: Car got a sponge bath (Big Red Sponge) with some ONR. I am amazed at how well it handled removing over 3 months worth of winter crud!!!! The ONR and BRS are my back ups that I keep at home. My good stuff- N914, microfiber mitts, and Opti Spray Wax- stays at work at the shop...

    Ford Thunderbird

Great save, Scott! Having worked on a number of them as a painter- Ford really failed on the paint!! Thin as can be, horrible orange peel, a funny sort of soft when it came to paint hardness. A great example of a car that could've been a really cool retro inspired ride that was dumbed down...

Accidentally got clay under vinyl stripes. How to remove?

Toothpick and a detail spray/clay lube should do the trick

The Post a Picture of Your Ride as it Sits Thread

I've been meaning to ask you what is the significance of having the Rhys Millen Racing sticker on the front bumper underneath the left headlamp on Hidalgo? Or do you just have it on there for fun? Either way, I give it a thumbs up! I've been a fan of the Millen family since I was a child in...

Thinking about trading in the CR-Z for a Fiat 500 Abarth, thoughts?

Three season set up is currently the stock 17"s with a mish-mash of rubber that came on them when I got the car- looking to paint those white before the end of winter and mount 225's on the front and 195's in the rear. Winter mode is the base model 15" steelies you see painted Subaru STI BBS...

Thinking about trading in the CR-Z for a Fiat 500 Abarth, thoughts?

I for one love the Integrale in white! And if I had the money I would be putting them on my own car!

Destructive Polishing - Don't get clearcoats hot! by Mike Phillips

To quote George and Ira Gershwin: "Potato, potato; tomato, tomato; let's just call the whole thing off" - Actor Christopher Walken did a hilarious spoof of this Broadway classic as part of the opening sequence for an episode of Saturday Night Live back in the early 2000's. :)

DetailedByPrecision 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 Brand new car extremely damaged paintwork. Paint Correction Ceramic Coating Auto Detailing San Francisco

Great save! And it looks like the previous owner had some body damage on it that had a marginal at best repair job

    Black Solution Finish on grey...

In all honesty- I would turn them down for that portion of the job and refer them to a bodyshop. Even then, I would talk them out of it- there is just no real surefire way of refinishing a pebble-textured raw plastic part and having a lasting finish- not unless they want to spend a couple grand...

Opinion wanted: would you bother getting this repainted?

It very well may be too green as well- just can't really tell from the photos.

Opinion wanted: would you bother getting this repainted?

Leave it alone! Repainting it again will only add unnecessary film build/thickness which in itself can lead to premature failure of the paint. As for an explanation of what you are seeing: World Rally Blue has a dramatic FLOP. The pearl in pearl paints are tiny little metal flakes made from...

    Does the Paint Match

Chiming in as a (former) professional painter (now bodyshop manager)- Even if the tint of the color was off- they should be able to blend better than that!!!!!!!!!! Also in some instances- just clear coat alone added on a silver or white panel can sometimes change the hue of the panel- however...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Finally had a moment to wash my car- it has been 3 months since the last time I had been able to do so! Just wish it was under better circumstances! Long story short: my exhaust broke off and under further investigation was not reusable- so I had to fabricate a new one out of various bent...

spotting under brand new black car paint

It does look similar to moisture trapped in the clear coat to me. This happens from time to time while the vehicle is in transit with the plastic wrap on it- being exposed to multiple temperature differences while on the road can cause the spots to appear. I have seen vehicles with entire...

Restoreing "light?" hazing on carbon fiber

Typically with carbon fiber if it is showing signs of yellowing- that means that it does not have clear coat- just extra resin/epoxy that makes it smooth and glossy. That yellowing is the results of UV damage- as most resins/epoxys are not UV resistant/stable like automotive clear coat is...
