Drying towels: is the PFM by Griot's still the best?

I gave this technique a try yesterday with my large PFM and it works really well! Much better than trying to fold the large PFM into something manageable for wiping, and worrying about it unraveling and dragging on the ground. I personally like to start by dragging the large PFM across the...

    Best synthetic clay option?

Good advice! I've just started using my Nanoskin fine mitt. I noticed it was a little stuck to the packaging when I first got it. After I used it, I let it dry out then put it back in the plastic box, but I'll try the parchment. I just got this mitt too. What do you mean by storing it properly?

Brand new 3D Compound/Polish - To be introduced at the Roadshow Class at 3D!

8 section passes seems like a lot! Was it just this paint that required it? Or is that standard procedure? It's been a while since I've watched Mike's DA how-to videos. In any case, being able to work for 8 passes really says a lot about this new 3D product!

Looking for a wheel cleaner, currently usiong Griots HD wheel cleaner

+1 for D143. Great maintenance product. I use it at 2:1 as well. Love that it's versatile as a tire cleaner too, and cost-effective overall.

    Best of both worlds

You're definitely on the right track! The paint on your two cars isn't all that different. I think M105/M205, and some black, white and orange Force pads will give you a well-rounded kit! I like to keep the "fine tuning" of pads simple and to a minimum: compound with orange pads, polish with...

    Polisher Upgrade from Porter Cable

While I don't own either (yet), I had the opportunity to test drive both the FLEX 3401 and RUPES LHR15 MarkII back to back on a hood at a Sonax tradeshow booth recently, and I must say the operation of the RUPES was much more smooth. I think the forced rotation of the FLEX plays a part in...

    Pad storage

I use a container with clear plastic drawers like the pic above too. I really like that one in the pic. Looks about the right size for a modest collection of pads and towels. Mine's too small.

what pads to use with Fg400 for one step

Not sure how old that Honda was, but I just wanted to point out that the paint on my 2006 Accord is pretty hard. 6 passes each with Meg's UC and UP still left some light scratches and swirls.

    Exterior Trim Sealants

I'm in the market for something like this too. Just got a vehicle with lots of textured black plastic on the exterior. It's all still in good condition, so now's the time to protect it. I've always known about WETS, but are there any other options?

A Good One Step Compound & Polish

I'm interested in trying HD Polish+ and have come across a number of your posts. But you've mentioned that Polish+ doesn't have enough cut for defect removal on hard paints. So what would be your recommendation for a 1-step swirl remover on that type paint? I'm leaning towards Menzera Medium...

    25% off... really????

I too have made the same complaint and suggestion about shipping to Canada. I understand that it's more expensive in general, but some kind of discount comparable to what US customers are getting would be nice. eg. If free shipping in the US is worth $10, then it would be $10 off the $50...

Which MF towels should I buy?

You're talking about fender covers. They're quite common in the world of automotive repair. They generally vinyl on the outer side, and have fabric on the inner side to avoid scratching the paint. But as for how soft and safe they are, I'm sure a lot of people here would question that. We're all...

Engine bay dressing-- what do you use?

I use 303 AP. Lasts about 6 months (spring until I get rust-proofing done in the fall), and doesn't collect much, if any, dust.

    Pad number ratio?

I have 8 cutting pads, 8 polishing pads, a 2 finishing pads. I find that enough to do a mid-sized sedan. However, my brother asked me to buff out his Sierra 2500 pickup, and I don't think those will be enough. I'm thinking I'll need another 6 each of the cutting and polishing for such a big...

    Polishing pad care

^^ good link I use 3D Towel Kleen. I mix some in a 5 gal bucket, then as I finish with a pad, I throw it into the solution. I also make sure to clean the pad on the fly in between sections. Once I'm done the job, I have some more Towel Kleen mixed up in a spray bottle and follow the guide...

    Clear coat failing on headlights?

Mine looked like this too, I too suspected that the factory coating had begun to fail. I used this 3M kit to restore the lenses and they came out great. I just followed the instructions in the box, and the video on their website. I just chose to use the CarPro DLux coating I had around instead...

One product, complete interior clean - APC?

What do you suggest if applying a protectant (like 303 AP) to the plastics afterwards? Is that ok to "go over" something like an interior detailer or rinseless/waterless wash? I've just been using a MF damp with water to neutralize the APC.
