You could connect the cannon without removing the wand extension with the right hardware but that would put the weight of the cannon further away from you which would be a little harder to handle. On mine I just hook the cannon right to the pistol grip. Easy to control. Then I have 3 wands so...

One question that occured to me...during the polishing you showed the pad with comment "see how dirty the pad is" or something along those lines. At that time did you clean the pad or fluff and continue. If you cleaned in the parking lot what did you use? Thanks....got the kit and was curious.
