Getting Experience (when you already work full-time)

I definitely agree with this. A lot of the hustle and speed detail work is learned from dealerships, car washes and some detail shops. I learned all of my "real" detail skills online

    Logo Feedback

I'm with your girlfriend... I like the top right one in the 2nd set I like the idea of the buffer in the logo if it was placed in there a little better. It just looks slapped on in all the logos

What generator are you using for your mytee lite 2?

Is it sufficient for a mytee lite 2? Mytee lite 2 = 19 amp draw = 2280 watts Do you think I'd be straining it too much with that unit?

    Getting a detailing job?

You can expect about $9 - $10 an hour where I live... If you change your mindset about the car situation, you can EASILY make double or triple that starting out with your own business. Plus you have experience with coatings and are detail enthusiast here on AG. Not many "professional" detailers...

What generator are you using for your mytee lite 2?

Just placed an order for one with the sale... We're very excited for it! Anyway, I'm looking at picking up the harbor freight predator 3200/4000 generator to power it, but the receptacles only power up to 13 amps individually (I think). Is that an easy fix? Our budget is low, but more...

Does anyone actually work professionally in a detail shop

Getting a job in a detail shop should be no harder than getting a job at McDonald's. They are generally entry level jobs

Taking the plunge and starting an auto detailing business in Metro Detroit.

For a 1-step clean and shine interior product for the tornador, try mixing a little diluted apc and water based dressing. Some people refuse to try it because its not the "right" way to detail, but it saves 30 minutes by not having to separately dress interior trim, and not cleaning more than...

The infamous question: "How much do you charge for a detail?"

Great thread! I struggle with this too at times. Over the past year, I've noticed that there are 3 main services that people want when they ask for the price of a "detail": 1.Complete interior shampoo 2. Wax job 3. Buffing, polishing, swirl removal, defect removal, paint correction, etc (make...

    Buisness name thoughts

Yes I did! An nah they don't lol. Here's what I found: 1. How to name your business and strategies to name it 2. Big companies like McDonalds have found their brand and business name strategy to be important lol

    Captains boat coating?

Nice! I'm interested as well.. How much product was used on the boat you were working on?

    Buisness name thoughts

Have you read those pages? None of them stress the importance of a name for small businesses at all. You can't really compare Ralph Lauren to a detailing business

    Price for detail

Also, you can't just call the customer and raise the price lol. That's rediculous! If you already quoted a price, you have to stick by it.

    Price for detail

$130 is solid considering he's not polishing the whole car or shampooing at all. Also, this his first paying job! Ever heard of paying your dues? We're not fixing cars guys ... We're cleaning them.

Rotaty buffer - what pads to use

You can use your 5.5" foam pads on the rotary with a compatible backing plate, like a 5" buff and shine one. When I was doing dealer cars, I liked to use a rotary with AIO polish, bc u don't have to use any pressure or do many passes to get awesome results. Nothing is smoother and quicker than...
