suggestions for headlight cleaning (not yellow/foggy)

If they are just 'cloudy' clay them and polish over them when you do the rest of the car. Then apply whatever LSP you prefer. But know they can rehaze in 6 months or so. If you want to use a coating to get it to work the best you will have to sand off the factory coating before applying...

Light for under the hood and interior?

Most any good LED light will do, but a cordless one make it easier to use. I have a Harbor Freight Underhood Rechargeable Work Light that is nice for under the hood. It has hooks on both ends for hanging, and is as wide as most engine bays. For the interior I have used my knock-off Scan...

    Auto Detailing For Dummies

Get a copy of Mike's book - The Complete Guide to a Show Car Shine. This is a great place to start, and it is an excellent reference going forward. And if it is your budget, look into taking one of Mike's 3 day Boot camp detailing classes. He teaches a ton of stuff, passes along time saving...

    What's in your backyard?

Hopefully he can get a few thousand more of those non-native/evasive creatures and make a small dent in restoring the natural ecosystem there!

    Water spots on Boats???

Thanks for the heads up Mike! I am sure you meant to type the year as "2021"...no one wants to relive this year! :D

    Checking Paint Thickness

I have a friend/client that has seen me use the PTG on his cars, and now borrows it when he is looking at buying cars. He said he gets odd looks, but can has an idea on the cars paint/body history, and can negotiate accordingly.

    I just joined the IDA...

I have never heard that term in all the classes (MTE, webinars, Detail Fest) that I have taken, and most were taught folks that are IDA Skills Validated. Maybe Mike P. can weigh on the terminology.

Small Spot of Clear Coat Failure. Should I Still Ceramic Coat The Truck?

I would recommend using an paint thickness gauge to get an idea how much clearcoat you have to work with. If I am every in doubt, I inform the customer of my concerns and just use a cleaner wax on that area.

    Carpro Dlux, wrong date???

There are companies who make coatings with ingredients that allow you to see what you have just applied with special lights. Might be a good way 'to get your feet wet' with a new process.

Which microfiber towels for washing the car?

I would say the TRC Eagle Edgeless is a good choice. I really like the TRC Creature 16x16 for doing a damp wipe during a rinseless washing. But since they are dual pile (I only use the fluffy side on the paint) it would require more towels if you were using the 'bucket of towels' method.

    56 Chevrolet Pickup

Great work Tommy! Poor paint work is a pain! My sister-in-law purchased a 67 GTO clone, and it was the nice medium blue in BC/CC. I chased imperfections on the trunk lid for about hour until I realized they were in the paint, under the clear...

    Washing with Microfibers?

Define 'Very dirty'? For me that means the vehicle has been driven off paved roads, or has picked up something harmful from the road surface (salt, etc.). I will sometimes use the 'bucket of towels' method, but it uses too many towels for my taste - fine if you don't mind doing detailing...

    Polishing Paint on Plastic

The trick is to keep the heat down. When doing plastic/flexible bumpers you want to be aware of the heat being generated, and make sure not to work one spot too long. The pad you started with - Microfiber pad, generates alot of heat, and using tie PE-8 in rotary would generate even more heat...

    Portable generators

Another vote for the Honda units. My (across street) Master Electrician neighbor has a EU3000, and it ran quietly for a week after a hurricane a few years ago. He has a direct plugin, but no transfer switch - he just used the electrical panel switches to run fridge, some outlets, but no A/C...

Vinyl UV protectant that doesn't show reflection on the windshield

Sorry Paul (the Lens Master), but Ben Collins aka The Stig disagrees! In his book "How To Drive" as Quote "avoid at all costs polarized sunglasses.I don't know who invented them or why,but they ruin your ability to judge perspective and are totally unsuitable for driving" Well we know...

    2011 WRX Paint Correction

For folks new to polishing starting with a full 'system' maybe the easier way to go - something like the Griot's Boss 3 pad/polish system, or the new Rupes DA 2 pad/polish system. The 'system' approach will get you good results, without the guess work of pad & polish choices. If you continue...

    First time purchase advice

I have polished a few black vehicles that were not well cared for, and several ended up with with 'crows feet' or 'paint checking'. If possible, I would recommend doing a test spot first to see if this is an issue. I believe it is the heat from the pads that causes the 'crows feet', so would...

    Wheel Cleaners

As the others have said, most wheel cleaners should be safe on those wheels. But if you are washing them regularly, any good car wash soap should be sufficient. And for a 2-in-1 use a wash & wax soap (ceramic/SiO2 are even better) to clean and add a little protection.

    Carpro Immolube

I use it as part of a rinseless wash, if I am claying and polishing. Wash panel Spray with Immolube (at 1:15) Work area with clay towel, reapplying Immolube if needed Wipe area with fluffy waffle weave towel (I need to use these for something!) Spritz panel with Eraser Spread/wipe dry with PFM...

What will your next ride be?

Still waiting on the other drivers insurance company to get back to me, but expect my 2000 Frontier (bought new) to be "totaled", sooo...looking at a 2018-2019 Hyundai Elantra GT (hatchback). I like the looks of these, it seems to have decent room inside for supplies, and get fair MPG. I like...
