Not tar this time... it's worse.

Hey gang, I need some help. I was absolutely stumped today by a car in the shop. After my last success with a completely tar covered Subaru BRZ, I figured I had a pretty good grasp on what was due in this morning. Turns out I was very wrong. There aren't too many external issues on a finish...

    An observation I’ve just observed

The people in the drive-through certainly don't care about what they put in their bodies, why would they care about the finish of their cars?

Nick @ McKee's Just Did Me A Solid

Same story with me. He gave me a really good lasting impression of McKee's, and I will continue to choose their products over other brands when there is an apples to apples choice. Nick definitely gets it.

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

Not water-based, so not rinsing with water at all. Tarminator: spray, dwell, wipe until removed. Kerosene: spray, dwell, wipe and wipe some more. spray, wipe. spray, wipe until removed. Then the chemical decon with CarPro. Once done, washed with foamy D11 Hyperwash soap to remove any residue.

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

As suggested by someone in the previously linked post on tar, I also tried 3M Decal & Adhesive Remover, and it works wickedly good, but it's just too damn expensive to justify using it over Tarminator or Kerosene.

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

I love it. I'd have to do a LOT of tar babies to justify 5 gallons of bug juice. That's a BIG bucket!

    Need Vs. Want (Newbie Question)

A foam gun is super fun, no doubt. I don't disagree with Scott from Dallas very often, but I do here. It does waste a lot of soap for no reason, and using a pressure washer in the process adds to setup and cleanup time/effort, which I can't stand. I also wind up washing the car by hand with the...

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

Yeah, I didn't know. Good tip. A 5-gal bucket seems a bit like buying 5 gallons of mayonnaise for the house, though. A 1-gal container would be perfect.

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

CarPro chemical decon followed by a wipedown with a Nanoskin pad. It needed everything thrown at it and more.

    Most regretted detailing product purchase

The only thing I regret purchasing was my MTM foam gun. I rarely use it because it wastes soap, creates more work with setting up and putting away the pressure washer & hoses, and it really doesn't accomplish much different that a very personal 2-bucket wash, which I wind up doing anyway. I've...

    Bug and Tar removal

For anyone interested, there is a separate follow-up to my previous post of the tar-covered Subaru BRZ that came in this past weekend... https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/120310-tar-covered-subaru-brz.html

    Tar Covered Subaru BRZ

This is a chaser to the thread that was created here: Bug and Tar removal about mass tar & bug removal, and the results of a project that I knew was coming in for quite some time. This was a bad one, and something I wanted to use as a crash test dummy for tar removal options. This is destined to...

    Bug and Tar removal

I have a couple cars coming in with really bad tar down the whole side of both cars. I experimented with some of my best tar removers on one of them today, and NOTHING took the road tar off. I went through Tarminator, mineral spirits and even straight gasoline, which ALWAYS works on even the...

MINI Countryman Interior: The feeling of defeat? YES! Accomplished? ABSOLUTELY!!

My Mini is immaculate, and most that I have seen are also clean and well kept. I don't think you can pigeonhole any one brand or make of vehicle owner. People suck, in general. I recently raised my rates for interiors to make sure that if I was going to get something like this that I was at...

Always. Clean, dry, plastic dress the cap. Done. Like door jams for me. It's always noticed by the customer.

Which browser do you use to read the forum?

IE has been garbage for a very long time. They haven't even made a Mac version since 2003. Chrome, Safari, Firefox are all better browsers and take full advantage of vB, which I have also been using on my own forums since 2001. IE users today are like AOL users... lost in history. FWIW, this...

    Tire Dressings Harming Tires?

Tire degradation has a lot to do with UV exposure, and not much to do with tire dressings, unless they are heavily silicone based, like Armor All. I have a set of Michelins that are cracked like crazy, but that's a really old tire. They aren't meant to last forever, and they don't wear out just...
