Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

3 month update on Car #3 Pt Cruiser The third car in this test was near the three month update, so I snapped a few pictures, and here is what I found. Opti coat 2.0 side Not sure why this picture looks a little hazy, but the lens is still clear in person. Notice the slight "ghosting" on the...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

The polished version does look a little better now that you mention it after 3 months. I never thought of that, thanks for mentioning it. Not sure why it looks better, I used the same camera, but at a different location and time of day. And I never used photo shop to enhance anything(wouldn't...

**My version of Cleaning Nasty Upholstery**

I use the 303 as a pre treat, so the seats get sprayed down, worked in with brush, then allow it to dwell. After that I use the extractor to rinse the soil and stains away. The folex can be used on really bad stains during the process. Sometimes on badly stained seats I may use the Folex as...

**My version of Cleaning Nasty Upholstery**

I think the aztec is plenty powerful for detailing and worth the price, however I am not sure if the mytee lite is worth the extra $125. I would invest in a good extractor and a vapor steamer as a 'handle anything' combo. A vapor steamer is on my wish list.

Hays. I see you are from Lawrence, any chance you are a KU fan? No, not yet. I have used some that are available at janitorial supply stores with good results, its very similar to the commercial version of scotch guard which I have used too, but its pretty expensive. Since I made this...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

As promised, here is the third test vehicle comparing spar vs opti coat. Three test vehicles will give better results, and hopefully settle any disagreements on weather it was done properly or not. Test vehicle #3- Chrysler PT Cruiser with over 150k miles. Spar urethane vs. Opti Coat 2.0 Here...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I usually start with 400, but thats just how I do it, in my opinion its necessary with most lights. I do them all by hand, if you used an electric or air sander you probably would not need that coarse of grit, and it would go faster and be more uniformly sanded. The GM lights that I have...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Well, I have decided to add in another car in this experiment, to see if I get the same results. And there will possibly be another car added in within the next week or so, that way we can compare all three results to see if they are comparable. This particular car is about 4 or 5 hours from...

    Yellow road paint

I found some white road paint on a vehicle that I was detailing recently, so I tried Tar-x CarPro Tar X Tar & Adhesive Remover and it came off fairly easily with a little scrubbing with a microfiber rag, not sure if it will work for your situation. I first tried Iron-x just to see if it worked...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I know its been a while since I did this, but if I remember correctly I used optimum power clean as well to prep the lights along with the IPA, but did not include that in my first post. You could be absolutely right about the oils not being removed, but at this point what should I do, re-do...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I actually have gotten over 2 years and counting on my work van headlights, and thats with the polished version spar treatment. No sign of deterioration at all, the van sits outside all year, but gets washed every couple of weeks, and the lights get treated with a wax or paint sealant every 3...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I am in mid western Kansas(Hays), probably 3 or 4 hours west of Manhattan on I-70. I had no clue that the opti coat would be showing signs of failure already, depending on how long it lasts, it might not be much better than using Klasse for headlight restorations. I don't think optimum made...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

As promised here is an update. 3 months after restoration spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0 The hot Kansas summer definitely put these coatings to the test. We've had many 100+ temperature days this summer. And I don't think this test car has been washed since I did the restoration. So the...

Last I checked they still looked good. Its my sisters car, so I don't always see it too often. I don't think its even been washed since the restoration, so it will have a heavy film of grime and bug guts, not to mention our part of the country has had a record number of triple digit...

Here are the directions directly from the AG store. Directions: Polish paint to remove any defects. Clean surface with 15% IPA solution to remove all polishing oils, waxes, and silicones. Prime the applicator by making an X pattern across the pad. Only a few drops will be needed for each...

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

I think a lot of lights can be done with this size of opti coat, not sure on how many, but you don't need much per light. So it should last along time.
