Mike Phillips' The Art of Detailing /How to Start a Home-Based Car Detailing Business

Hi John, Got them as a Christmas present (book version) and they are very good. Renny has some good experience to share from the business aspect, Mike covers a lot of the polishing correction and good habits to establish.:xyxthumbs:

Used the Diamondite Headlight system today

That drill has been steady for me!:xyxthumbs: I clicked on the link for your website Andrew, your def. working the high end of the detailing market, the website is top notch too and I think any "high ender" would be sold when they look it over. I'm just starting to study up on websites. It...

Cant Remove these marks from door sill area

Never used Power Clean, but if it is the equivalent of Meg's APC then I'm surprised. Goof Off and Goo Gone may help here if your still trying diff. things. Also, 0000 Steel wool also used vey lighty with the Goo Gone should have an affect.

Running a Detailing Business For 3 Years

Way to go B&B, I hope to get to that point some day. It's good to see a detailer make it from just the basics needed for the job. I love this stuff and only wish I knew that there was a way to connect with other like minded folks sooner. I didn't know there was so many of us out there. I'll be...

    School me on Merenza products

Good job Nick, I'm looking for Mike's feedback on Menzerna and my next purchase from AG will be to load up my arsenal(as Mike would say) and I've never worked with Ceramiclear or Menzerna yet. If I have my info right, M105 does not contain Diminshing abrasives, but Ultra Compound does. UC has...

Used the Diamondite Headlight system today

If I can add this, I plan on going into business this year, I've been testing so many diff. products over the last year , but I want to have full confidence that when I tell a customer I can get his headlights clear,(or anything else) that I have done it before with the same chemicals from...

Used the Diamondite Headlight system today

I bought the Diamondite system at the Christmas sales, Mike demo'd it and it's the only headlight repair with no sanding step. I got my chance to use it today and it worked great, I'll try to attach photos here. Also got to break in the new Flex 3401c, it was flawless and a true step up from my...

Amount of Microns in a Mil?

Good stuff guys, with the 25% factor that FUNX725 gave us, That leaves approx. 37 microns to work with (barring the Ceramiclear wildcard that Mercedes throws us). Overall, we should feel confident enough to make several passes. I "Ultimate Compounded" my 2004 Black Tahoe last year and it turned...

Amount of Microns in a Mil?

Saw someone post on our threads recently that we usually remove about 2 microns when we compound a vehicle. Mike has instructed us that there are about 2 mils of Clearcoat on the average car. If this holds true, then we should be able to go lightly compound to remove swirls at least a few times...

    Engine Bay Detailing

Meguiar's all Season Dressing D160 is a good dressing to use after you degrease it. Meg's APC in a 1:4 dilution will break up dirt/grease before you hose it off. You can also use the dry method and not use water, but you'll be sacrificing a bunch of rags. Theres lot of good APC's and exterior...

Audi s5 rock hard paint. Any suggestions

I read the link, bloody Germans have to complicate matters. Wes, it makes sense that a German clearcoat syncs up with a German compound. I'm going to have to have Menzerna or equivalent on hand myself to be ready for this, I haven't dealt with this Ceramaclear yet. I don't mind if the other team...

Audi s5 rock hard paint. Any suggestions

Good call Swanicyouth, I was thinking the same thing. M105 on a 3401 should be making an impact. I just tried the LC Hydrotech Yellow pad the other day and it performed better then the Meguiars pad I usually use.

    Henery Hawk is here.

Welcome aboard Henery, is that single stage paint your working with? Rmagnus is right, a DA will save you so much time and do a better job than you can by hand. Your arms are gonna look like the Hulk's after you compound that whole truck!

New/ Please help with current products list

Hey Jrocket, Since your car is White/off White, you may find that you'll need to clay about once a year, Pinnacle has some nice finer grade clays for the next time you are ready to clay. It seems like everyone has a favorite glass cleaner and you'll need to experiment. Being Ammonia free is a...

Detailers that hang out on discussion forums know more than detailers that don't...

Without this forum I would be about 6 months behind in my Detailing growth, gleaning info from everyone else's experience seriously cuts down on "Game day mistakes" and increases our skill level without getting a sore back getting there. We all want to get the job done right the 1st time and I...

Paint Sealant question, as I do some Recon

The product I've been using as the Sealant layer is Meg's "Ultimate Wax" with their #26 Carnauba wax applied on top for the shine. Their tech line feels 12 hrs. is the norm for the chemical bond, so I'm still debating this. Mike: I also decided to try what you recommended as a "one step", the...
