Spray Wax that is long lasting and gives decent protection?

AquaWax. Got tired of spending $10 for 18oz so I "splurged" and bought a gallon for $30. Looks good, smells great, stupidly easy to apply.

What paint coating do you prefer and why?

Coatings are a relatively new class of paint protection that are different from traditional sealants and waxes. To my knowledge, coatings started appearing around 2010-2011. Coatings are designed to bond to the paint and last one to two years. Since coatings are semi-permanent, it is crucial to...

Collinite 845 at Advance Auto Parts

This time of year in northern climates Collinite is the wax to use. I have OptiCoat 2.0 on my Versa and I'm still planning on throwing a coat of 845 on it just in case.

Thinking about winter in September- need input

@ Desertnate - I'd wait. Snow brushes, ice pellets, salt, sand, gravel, kitty litter, all can do damage to your car's finish. Protect what you have, then polish in the spring.

Thinking about winter in September- need input

I'd take a Good, Better, Best approach to winter paint protection. Good - Strip LSP, clay if needed, reapply Blackfire Wet Diamond. Better - Strip LSP, clay if needed, reapply Blackfire Wet Diamond, top with Collinite 845. Best - Strip LSP, clay if needed, apply a coating like OptiCoat 2.0.

    whats your current favorite Shampoo?

Optimum and Duragloss. Both are excellent shampoos at a reasonable price point. I'd also add Meguiars Gold Class if it wasn't $20 for 64 oz in Canada. :(

    Any upgrades for UQW

Duragloss Aquawax. Wash with your favourite soap, rinse, spray Aquawax while the car is still wet, then dry with a waffle weave towel. Aquawax is inexpensive, easy to use, looks great, smells great. If I had to pick one detailing product that I could not live without Aquawax would be it...

Frequent Car Care is Easy Car Care

With all due respect Mr. Phillips, since the quote was from Barry Meguiar wouldn't it have been appropriate to use Meguiars products for this demonstration? ;)

Placing an order soon, have some last minute questions about using megs nxt2.0 wax

I'm concerned about using Tech Wax on single stage paint. You didn't say which car you were detailing, but if you're working with single stage paint most likely the car is at least 30 years old. There isn't any "wax" in TechWax - it's all synthetic polymers, so I'm concerned that it may look too...

Removing Tire Gel Sling From Paint

I agree as well, looks like dried Oil of Seagull. Try ONR at QD strength (4 oz per gallon or 1 oz per 16 oz bottle) first. If that doesn't work, try clay or an Autoscrub. Use the ONR as lube. ;)

Anybody else make their own water?

Yeah, my bad too. I was picturing in my head a couple of bottles (think nitrous bottles in drag racing) with valves and lines attached to each, open both valves and have water appear magically where the two lines meet. Knew I should've taken chemistry class in high school.

Anybody else make their own water?

 is right! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ak59r3B5aYc]Hydrogen mixed with oxygen - YouTube[/video] Google "mixing hydrogen and oxygen" for other examples not involving water appearing out of thin air.

Anybody else make their own water?

Unless you have bottles of hydrogen gas and oxygen, I didn't think it was possible to create water from scratch. Learn something new every day. :thankyousign:

    Bucket preferences

Three white Canadian Tire buckets. Two have a red logo, one black. Red Grit Guards for the red buckets, empty for the black - that's for wheels and tires. ;)

    Dust repellants?

Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant for my LSP, followed by Duragloss Aquawax after every wash. I spray the Aquawax when the panel is free of soap residue but still wet, then dry with a waffle weave microfiber as normal.

    dish soap

This and PIPUK's LSP stripping thread are very informative. Good news is I don't have to buy Dawn any more (except for when I do dishes, which is almost never ). Bad news is, I now have to look into getting an actual paint cleaner for stripping LSPs. I already have Optimum Power Clean...

    Trim product preferences

Ultima Trim and Tire Guard Plus (UTTG+) Expensive for a trim product, but well worth it. Finish isn't greasy or oily, not too shiny, lasts for several weeks, doesn't smell terrible. Comes with its own applicator that's very comfortable to use. Highly recommended. CEEDOG (Corey) has mentioned...

Does using the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish mean less taping?

Hyper Compound and Hyper Polish don't dust or cake, but trying to use their spray nozzle is a royal PITA. The best solution I've found is to pull the trigger slowly on the pad and try to get a bead of product instead of a wide spray. It's the reason why I've stuck with PoliSeal instead of trying...

If you had to chose one brand...

Optimum. Wash, rinseless, compounds, polishes, sealants, coatings, APC, interior, plus whatever else Dr. G has cooking up. All due respect to Meguiars, I've yet to see a product from them that can do all of the things ONR can. With that said, Meguiars would be my #2 and Duragloss #3.
