Try a test like I did. Put a coat of WGDGPS on the whole car. Then after it cures pick a wax to put on one panel and see if it looks better/different/worth the effort.
Or pick a wax per panel. Put a different wax on each panel while leaving one with only WGDGPS.

I'd suggest Opti-eraser. It's easier to use than traditional clay.
If it drops on the ground, just wash it off instead of throwing it away and it'll last longer.
The only disadvantage of it is that it's harder to feel when the panel...
I think the downward force is the biggest variable. If you use the same force on a smaller pad as a large pad, that will mean a lot more pressure and a lot more heat created on the panel.
