    Emails from "customers"

I was just curious. Having to answer emails form someone who clearly isn't actually going to pan out is just an annoyance is all. Most of my work comes from referrals anyway so I rarely have to book work any other way. As an aside, the only time I jacked a price quote was when I got a text from...

    Emails from "customers"

Just curious how often you all are getting an inquiry either via email or social media or heck even by phone that you KNOW is another detailer trying to find out what you're charging? Seems like I've gotten a handful over the last month or so and when I ask what kind of car they have they either...

An idea for getting customers after just starting a business

Just curious, what kind of mechanic is it? Is it a dealer or a local shop? Perhaps you should consider renting one of his bays to work out of and when people see a detailer working in the bay it would put you in their sight. Heck you could even work out a deal to have your business card or...

    Garage Detailing Advice

I was just about to say the same thing. Especially when the client tells the cops that their car is at the detailer and he has the insurance....

" 4. KEEP TRACK OF CUSTOMERS! Sorry for the caps but this is SO important. Have a client list. ANY call/email you get you need to fill out a contact sheet getting their name/#/email. ASK how they heard about you so you know what methods are working for you. SAVE these files (keep them organized)...

    Garage Detailing Advice

Sure. Will post a pic when I am back home. It wasn't hard at all. It's basically just reducing the intake area of the head so that you are increasing the suction.

Bicycle detailing - 1985 Mongoose Expert

Oh man, I started in 7th grade on a borrowed Mongoose with motomags. I was able to borrow the bike between motos because my buddy was a year older than I and he'd just hand me the bike at the hill. Upgraded to the Californian the following year and swapped out the neck and sprockets. I used to...

    Garage Detailing Advice

I actually modified one of the heads from my shop vac which makes it almost as effective as a high quality extractor. I also make it a point to keep the windows (and doors as long as it isn't a tight space) open while I am working. Mist interior jobs are accompanied by the exterior so I knock...

Getting part time up and running again!

My business is about as part-time as it gets. I only do it 2 days per week and literally only take the jobs that come from referrals from previous customers. DO NOT budge on your price. While most of us here really enjoy detailing, doing it part time takes away from doing other things that you...

    Professional Detailers list

Anyone serving Staten Island NY? Preferably mobile? A friend asked for a referral since I don't travel THAT far for jobs. Would rather refer a AGO member.

Bicycle detailing - 1985 Mongoose Expert

The older Mongoose frames were made overseas and usually the chrome was sprayed on. Add to that the fact that the Expert frames if I'm not mistaken were half Chromoly and half aluminum it made for a lot of inconsistency in the chrome. The older ones with the headset plate were prone to the...

Facebook users start "like"ing our pages

Haven't been on this thread in a couple of months, but I have noticed a handful of likes that most likely came from you all. Thanks for the likes and I will be back at the desk liking your pages over the weekend. This really is helpful as far as web visibility because I have started receiving...

So, I was at this local car get together/car show, and....

Similar thing happened to my wife. She is an excellent baker and has a very small business locally. Someone stole a couple of pictures of her work and claimed them as her own and posted them online. Problem for the person that did it is that "thuh interwebz" is a small place and literally dozens...

Revising my price plans. Need your opinion.

Say what you want about the scrap yard work, but you absolutely did the right thing there. work your craft and technique on a hunk of junk first. I learned everything I know on my (at the time) brand new pickup. There was a lot of trial ( and some error ) but the truck always looked darned good.

    Work with a purpose

I agree with all of the above. Don't get me wrong, if a customer specifically asks about a swirl, scratch or stain, I don't go nuts trying to add it to their service. I have pretty much stopped trying to explain the products that I use unless there is a change in product from the last time that...

Lost a long time customer...just a funny story.

If that had been the case, I wouldn't have even had a problem with it. Most of my customers don't really care WHAT I'm using as long as it looks good. Not that I really have a problem with it because if New Guy didn't even last 1 season....
