OK, how do I get work?

As a follow up to my thread, it seems my ads on Craigslist are working. I'm averaging 1 car a week, (which is what I want) but would do 2 if need be. I'm finding out how hard the work actually is, and really don't want to do more than 1-2 per week. I don't think my body could withstand much...

    Products that work in sunlight?

Poorboy's Polish w/Sealant is awesome. I use it on all the cars I do with Optimum Spray Wax (sealant) on top, and the results are incredible. (and long lasting)

    2 Bucket Method, it works!

sharpie? I'm going to blow this grit guard sham out of the water. I can't believe people think this is the best science brings them. I will prove it too. Grit guard, bye bye. Really? Is this the best we have is that we wave our hand in a bucket and hope that all the dirt stays on the bottom...

    2 Bucket Method, it works!

The first car I used the "grit guard" on was my latest. ( I still contest there are other ways to do it) and guess what? No dirt showed up. Granted, it was a relatively clean car in need of swirl removal, but anyway, I'm willing to get with the program. For the record, the clay was basically...

    My first "high end" car

Thanks. The more I do it, the more respect I have for other detailers. The amount of work involved is almost insane. You almost have to be OCD. Actually, that might be a prerequisite. Especially if your a mobile detailer doing it in hot weather. You definitely earn every penny. Right now I'm...

    My first "high end" car

Thanks. I guess it varies sometimes, but there must be a reason why some cars have a rep for hard paint, and others for soft. Btw, my 98 camry is no where near as hard as the beamer I just did. Go figure. Like someone said, it's like polishing rocks.

    My first "high end" car

Thanks, I think I'm gettin the hang of this. Since his car is dd, and far from perfect, I told him not to expect miracles. Rather, we walked around the car and I explained to him what could be done, and what needed a body shop. He understood that there would still be minor imperfections, but...

    My first "high end" car

Did a job for a guy with a really nice 06 BMW. It turns out that someone had taken a rotary buffer to it and put some serious swirl marks on the paint. There were "rows" of swirls on the hood and trunk mostly. He didn't really need a full correction, so I advised him to let me compound the hood...

    Scratch on new car question

Knee slapper! Why is this? Why don't dealers care? Who's doing the "detailing" for them? Minimum wage flunkies?

OK, how do I get work?

What are you doing to these vehicles? It took me 5 1/2 hours to properly machine polish the car, complete interior work, tires, etc.

OK, how do I get work?

Tell me about it. And at my age (49), I don't think I could handle more than 2-3 cars a week. Since I have a night job at a grocery store, I just need enough to pay rent and have a little left over. The only thing that worries me though, is that my right shoulder and my back are very...

OK, how do I get work?

Thanks for all the great ideas. I just got a call from a guy who saw my ad on craigslist. I have to do 2 cars for him tomorrow. Let's hope this continues.

Are you getting regular jobs now?

OK, how do I get work?

So far I've only had 1 job, and that was a friend of the family. How exactly do I get started getting regular jobs? (I need at least 1 a week) So far I am advertising on Craigslist, put fliers on people's mailboxes and cars, pass out business cards when possible, and am on yp.com. What else...

Do I go for it or not yet?

Suffice it to say that we indeed do have different ideas of what cold is. I lived near Buffalo NY for many years, ummm yeah, now we're talking cold and nasty for months. Georgia is paradise compared to that. There's still a good 4 months left here in GA for decent weather, maybe more depending...

need tips on being lazy (foam gun?)

To be honest, the thought of wiping dirt off without at least rinsing first, scares me and doesn't fill me with confidence. People are entitled to their opinions and can do whatever methods they like, but I'll pass on it. I'll let my car get dirty and wait until I can use proper water, before I...
