Colored clear coat or single stage paint?

Yes. From what I've seen and read on these forums, SS paints can look just as good as clearcoats and you can use the same stuff that you use for clearcoats.

I guess I'll just drop by tomorrow. I'll be in the area anyways.

Colored clear coat or single stage paint?

I'm betting it's probably single stage paint. If there was a clearcoat and it has failed, I'm sure you would still have it in some areas. IMO, unless it was done on purpose, it's quite impossible for the clearcoat to be totally gone from the entire hood.

    Bargins!

I'm betting it's local. I was just at the auto section at Target this weekend and I didn't see any clearance items.:(

IMO, the Flex 3401 is no longer DA king...

It would be nice if they came out with their own MF discs to go with their backing plates. I already have two 5" and two 6" backing plates. I would really like to try the new MF system, but last thing I need is another set of backing plates just to go with the MF discs. You can, but...

How to apply Collinite 845? Any advice would be good for me.

I haven't done this, but I also heard of some people attaching a sprayer on the bottle and using it like a spray wax. That could help you spread it thinner. Of course, since you have the gray pad, by all means, use that to spread it. It should definitely spread it thing and evenly for...

What is the best "over the counter" products?

From my experience, I would have to rate Ultimate Compound as the top OTC product out there.

Protection Detail 2011 Jetta - Many Pics

You said you used the orange HT pad with Powerfinish but you still have RIDs. I'm guessing the Powerfinish is not finishing down well enough. Maybe you should try the Final Finish with the orange pad again and see how that works out. I haven't worked with Hydrotech pads, so this is kind of a...

Old waxes that are no longer around

I'll check it out. Rain Dance Polish was the first polish I bought when I got my 92' Prelude Si back in 92'. Still got two tubs of Blitz. How long has #26(Got 7 from Autozone clearance sale a while back) been around?

    Finishing polish needed?

What did you get for your free sample? They offer Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant 3.0 samples. You could use that instead of M21. I have used both and I thought Wolfgang was a lot better than M21. Don't know how freezing would affect M21 (It rarely gets that cold here in FL), but that would be...

    What was your first car?

Cool. I remember the navy renovating quite a few of the Essex class carriers with the angled deck for jet operations. Did they convert the Essex also? I can't remember.

    What was your first car?

This was my first car. A 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Emilio Pucci Edition. I got it back in 1987. The speedometer was broken, the radiator was clogged and the engine overheated on long drives. Good days!

    Finishing polish needed?

I just used Black Hole with a gray finishing pad on one of my cars, a red Prelude. I definitely noticed a difference afterwards. Underneath the fluorescent lights in my garage, it appeared to look wetter than before. It should do the same for your black Escape. Good luck!

    845 Question

As far as I know,Collinite does not have a "system". What Meguiar's polishes do you have? From my experience, Meguiar's polishes are compatible with just about any wax/sealant out there. I happen to really like M105 & M205.

    spring is slow getting here

Are polishes also affected by freezing temps? I keep my waxes in the laundry room just in case for those couple of times when we're supposed to cover up plants because of a "freezing" night, but I don't do it with my polishes.

Great job on the car. I love the leather too. Much softer than the leather in the Acura I used to have.:xyxthumbs:
