How long to wait before applying 2nd coat of DGPS?

Moisture will diminish the bonding so I'd highly recommend you keep it as dry as possible. That also means dew can be a problem.

Best wax for metallic black cars ?

It's a toss-up between Fuzion paste wax and Souveran. The Fuzion will bring out the metallic flake, but Souveran has more depth.

Why isn't there a universal color code for buffing pads?

I use a much more low-tech method to categorize my pads. I take a Sharpie and write on the edge of the pad... "POLISH", "MEDIUM" or "HEAVY". I can usually tell what brand the pad is by the shape so I only need to know how much cut it will give.

Beat Sealant for black / dark paint

I could tell a difference between sealant alone and sealant with a wax topper. The sealant is almost always very shiny. The sealant topped with wax (depending on what brand of wax) would usually have a much deeper look. Best results were with wax alone, I think. But it's all very subjective...

Why isn't there a universal color code for buffing pads?

The reason there is no standard color assignment for pads is because that would make it easy for the consumer to mix pads from different manufacturers. Having a unique color pattern makes it harder to compare across brands and causes the buyer to focus on one particular brand at a time. altho...

Beat Sealant for black / dark paint

Yep. I never saw much difference in sealants on my brilliant black A4. But I was very picky about waxes.

Need Some Help Picking My First DA Pads

Having used the second, third and fourth choices on a GG6, I'd definitely recommend #4. ThinPro pads are a great match. #2 is also a good choice, but I'd still go with ThinPros. It doesn't hurt that they're cheaper, too.

    7424 vs 7424XP

No, it wouldn't be worth it. I have the old version too, and it works perfectly fine after 15 years of solid use. Plug yours in and enjoy.

Amateur detailer looking to upgrade his polisher and perhaps pads and products - Advice needed

The PC is nice, and if it's working for you, no need to upgrade. But if you find that it stalls when applying pressure or on curves, you might benefit from something stronger. A Griots GG6 would be the next step up and is a bit better. But it's not going to cut your detailing time in half. You'd...

McKees 37 Hi Def Paint Sealant

Can anyone give a comparison between this and WG DGPS? Sounds like this is a little easier to remove and should be just as durable, but mostly I wonder about how it looks. DGPS has the typical sealant reflective shine. Does this have more of a carnauba glow?

    Are these buffer/polishers a no-no?

As others have said, don't bother. Yes, you could use one on older single stage paint with decent results. But it won't do much with modern clear coats. Plus, they're harder to control than an average DA. When buying a polisher, even as a weekend warrior working on your own car only, factor in...

    Single stage Mustang

Either someone removed the reflective orange stripe around the lower fairing, or that's actually a 1990. I had a '89 GT convertible in that same color. Mine was horribly oxidized when I bought it after spending most of its life outside. But with a basic one-step product (can't remember what...

    GG6 backing plate

Yes. You will almost certainly destroy your pads if you apply moderate to high pressure with the LC backing plate. It happened to me consistently until I bought the vented plate. Then the problem disappeared immediately.

UPDATE: New Falkens and heavy snow

This winter is the first since 2000 that I haven't had AWD with snow tires. I still have the snow tires, but switched to a RWD car (BMW). I've been out in the snow twice with it now, and I agree that RWD is much easier to manage than FWD in slippery conditions. My rear end would slide out just...

Test drive - NEW RUPES Mille and Rotary Buffer by Mike Phillips

Wowza! I bet Mike had to stop several times to wipe drool off the car as he was polishing! I never considered buying a rotary, but that one looks a lot less intimidating than the rest. I also want to hear more about the Mille compared to the Flex.

Mike what do you think about 3D products?

Mike is now referring to himself in the third person. I knew his fame would eventually get to him.

wolfgang fuzion paste wax the good the bad pro's and con's like to hear your feedback

Fuzion is a hybrid wax with some sealant properties, so its durability is fairly high. Expect several months of beading. My opinion is that Fuzion is best with metallic paint. If your red has flake in it, go for it. If it's a flat red, Fuzion won't do much more than something like Deep Gloss...

    Which one to apply first....?

The one rule that never changes, as Rsurfer mentioned, is wax always goes over sealant. You can't make sealant stick when applied over wax. You don't need both, but I often will do two coats of sealant and one coat of wax over that. Allow at least 12 hours of cure time after each coat.

    Longest windshield water repellent

Stoners works about as well as RainX. It goes on much easier, tho. By the way, it's awesome for cleaning iPads and smartphones! You might also consider Collinite 845. I used it last winter on my windshield and it worked better than any other product I've tried.
