    Headlight restoration 50/50.

If in fact you really have removed the old coating, you're dealing with the natural hardness of the polycarbonate which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you are wet sanding, and the runoff is milky color, you're down to the polycarbonate base. ray6

Headlight sealant: spar urethane vs. opti coat 2.0

Wet the surface with water. If the spots disappear, it's on the outside. If they don't, it's on the inside. I don't use the spar method, but I'm familiar with solvent based polyurothanes of which Minwax is one type. If water got under the coating or the coating appears to be defective, remove it...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

Another way to save money and time is to use a sanding lubricant. It extends paper lifetime, keeps surface cooler and keeps paper from filling up. Normally able to do 2 or 3 headlights per disk, but I only use 3000 grit. ray6

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

They look great! Have you tried putting down the spar after the 3000 grit without compound? The spar should fill in 3000 marks. As you make the surface smoother, I would worry about the spar binding to the polycarbonate. We stopped going past 3000 some time ago when we did some tests and...

has anyone done headlight restoration from the inside of headlights

We looked at it a few years ago. I don't think it's practical. It's not hard to open up the headlight, (oven) but getting it to seal again is another matter. You don't know what sealant was used, so you can't simply apply more sealant. Also, headlight must be removed, and when re-installed, may...

    Headlight Restoration-new UV sealant idea

If you're restoring headlights for money I wouldn't take the chance. I believe this coating cures through oxidation so if the can is half full, there is a chance it might not properly cure. Since the actual cost of any coating you use is probably less than a buck per car, use the best coating...

    Pricing

I don't know about your area but on the west coast the price is influenced by the warranty. If you warrant your restoration for 1 or 2 years, you're far above anyone not warranting their work. Also, the better job you do, the more referrals you will get. Probably 80% of our work comes from...
