Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine

Looks like we have two points of view for using ONR on a bunch of winter crud. For a "newbie" I think that a pre-rinse at a coin-op is the safer method.

Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine

If it were my car, I'd head to the coin-op to knock the big stuff before using ONR.

    Brand New Vivid Black Harley

If I were new to the detailing game and didn't have much product on hand, I think that I might give Meguiars Black Wax a try. Meguiars Black Wax, black wax for cars Apply with a soft foam pad and remove with a quality microfiber polishing cloth. One of my black Harleys is twenty years old...

    Brand New Vivid Black Harley

I'd hold off on a coating until I had some advice from Mike Phillips himself. A coating may not be the best answer. If it were, that's what all vivid black owners would be using. You are going to have to do some corrections regardless of what you use. Be patient.

    Brand New Vivid Black Harley

And I on the other hand, rarely use a "machine" to polish and wax my black Harleys and they come out just fine. Thing is no matter whether you work by "machine" or by hand you will be doing it often.

    Brand New Vivid Black Harley

I should add that I always use quality foam pads and quality microfiber towels and polishing cloths. Also, Harley Davidson appears to apply a ton of clear coat. Just don't become more "aggressive" than you have to be. Besides that, you shouldn't be looking for swirls or spiderwebs when you are...

    Brand New Vivid Black Harley

I have two vivid black Harleys...a 1995 Sportster and a 2002 Dyna. I purchased both of them new and they still look great. I treat them in pretty much the same manner as my other vehicles. Right now I am using Meguiar's Ultimate products as needed. Harley Davidson also has some excellent...

    new car orange peel

Yep! That's one reason I don't mind a bit of factory orange peel. However....I hate the dust nibs that many of the factory finishes have.....especially Ram trucks.

    pad cleaning

I hand wash my pads using Dawn dishwashing detergent. I work the soap into the pads and then rinse them well....maybe a couple of times. I use hot water. Then I let the pads air dry after getting them as dry as possible rolling them up in a terry towel. It's worked for me for a long, long time.

    Overspray on windshield

Any further suggestions before I order the "aggressive" Mequiar's clay. A friend who runs a pro-detailing shop suggested 000 steel wool and windex plus a lot of elbow grease. Not so sure that I want to use steel wool on glass. I can always use the "aggressive" clay on the rest of the truck...

    Overspray on windshield

I think that I still have overspray on the windshield after claying a bunch... at least the baggie test says that it is still there. I used both Clay Magic Fine Grade Clay and Meguiar's Body Shop Professional Overspray Clay. (It's pretty old but it is pliable and seems to be in good shape.)...

    Overspray on windshield

Yep, there was light overspray on the body. I took it off with my pc and some Mequiar's Ultimate Compound. I thought about clay, but I already had the compound out. I forgot about the windshield until I had to drive into a setting sun. Duh.

    Overspray on windshield

Had recent repair/repaint done to my wife's Tacoma. Discovered light overspray on windshield. The body shop is 500 miles away so it isn't going back. Try clay and then what?

How to apply Detailer's Paint Coating

Just how big is a "panel"? The "panels" on my Ram pickup are huge and very in size.

New paint - should I be concerned? Can I fix this?

Cricket, Quite a story. My wife would love a Miata convertible. However, we live in the country four miles to the nearest hard surfaced road so she drives a Tacoma 4X4. A nice Miata would need more than a bra on the hood and front of the fenders. By the way, her 2012 Tacoma with 75,000 miles...

Protecting paint from stone chips: Options?

I had a bra on a black 1990 Ford Bronco. I was very careful about I how I used it and had minimal marring. I took it off every time I washed the truck and I usually applied a coat of wax (Meguiars #16) before reinstalling it. This truck was a daily driver so I was taking the bra off and on a...

New paint - should I be concerned? Can I fix this?

Over the past ten years, Mike and I have had many "conversations" related to perfectionism, repaints and detailing. The last one was just a few months ago when I was looking for perfection in a hood (2012 Dodge Ram) repaint done by a state of the art body shop with excellent techs. I ended up...

    Cotton Chenille Wash Mitts?

Anyone else use cotton chenille wash mitts when doing a rinseless wash? They have worked very well for me going clear back to the days of QEW. I should add that I always get the really bad stuff off my truck before doing a rinseless wash. During the summer I do a quick hose rinse. If I have...
