Do you wash your car if it's going to rain?

Not unless you are a glutton for doing needless repetitive work. Wait and wash once the forecast looks promising. Unless of course you are one of those people who runs out with a handful of microfiber towels and 8 different solutions when a few specks of dust fall on your car (like some...

Do you wash your car if it's going to rain?

No it is a waste of time to wash the car when the forecast says its gonna rain. The monsoons here bring dust storms along with rain so wasting an hr to clean the car only to watch ti covered in dust and splotchy rain spots is a waste of time. I usually wait for a rain free forecast to attempt...

    What Sealant

Dr Beasleys Plasmacoat is supposed to last over a year. Give it a shot. I just bought it and probably apply it when the outside weather gets better here (its brutal now) in late Sept/Early Oct. The application looks very easy. Unfortunately I cannot vouch for its durability at this point but...

How much dirt do you accept?

Once every 2-3 weeks depending on how dusty it gets. Do a quick detail spray or rinse less wash or do the full monty wash depending on what my whim strikes me.

    Incredibly Cheap Finds

It says to use 1 oz per gallon of water. So using like 3 gal per wash, I could probably wash 40+ times at the least.

    Incredibly Cheap Finds

Living in an apt shouldn't be a showstopper for shampoo wash. I take my car often to the self serve wash and do a full wash and use my own shampoo in a bucket during the soap stage. I do rinse less washes and waterless washes as well but you cannot clean wheels well with those. Needs running...

What kinda bird did this come out of?

    Meguiars Paint Sealant

It is a great sealant with great results. Goes on and comes off easy with great results. Trust me, you won't notice much difference between this and the WGDPS 3.0. This stands shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the best synthetic paint sealants. Go for it :)

    Car Wash Sponge Recommendations?

Seinfeld..the greatest TV show ever IMO :) The show that gave us terms such as 'Spongeworthy' 'Master of the Domain' 'Yada Yada Yada' 'Shrinkage' and not to be left out... 'No Soup for you'

Coatings, if you had the choice and money was not an issue

Couple of things about UK emission standards and the MPG :) UK per se does not have higher standards than US (US is state dependent..CA has some of the most stringent emission standards...AL has No emission standards and an emissions check is not required at all). But UK does levy Vehicle...

Science and New Detailing Products. . .

Well if we are talking about the product in discussion which are the rinse less washes... I think there is more than ample data and evidence not from a controlled scientific test alone but also from thousands of real time users. I personally use them and I can attest to it working as...

Science and New Detailing Products. . .

Rinse less washes use emulsifiers that can lift up dirt and grime from surface that can be wiped away. That is the basic chemistry of it. But as such, the generic emulsifiers are used in various applications including food. So you can see...emulsifiers is a broad term and each emulsifier is...

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

vacuuming..there you go...that is a practical quick solution to suck up the fly ash flakes that does not involve a car cleansing routine with a Shaman, sacrificing 10 chickens to the car gods and smoking some peyote afterwards. :)

Science and New Detailing Products. . .

Unfortunately the only way to verify the claim in this case would be to actually use the product yourself or read about previous user experiences of the product before you want to buy and try yourself. And also determine how it works for your specific situation based on where you live and the...

    Car Wash Sponge Recommendations?

I use a sponge and I hate wash mitts. The Optimum blue waffle sponge works well for me as well as another sponge called Uber (its a rectangular block with no waffle structure). I also remember seeing a wash pad constructed of chenille which behaves like a sponge in your hand but made out of...

Science and New Detailing Products. . .

Well I am not a detailer per se. Thanks for the article link. Unfortunately the article is generic and does not have specific technical data on the exact chemical structure of the compounds which I am afraid and understand is a trade secret. It does not even have technical information as to...

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

Hmm YOUR science? Ash is safe to dust off in dry state. Only when it is mixed with water does it cause chemical reaction (unless of course you were sick the day they taught that in chemistry in high school). Dry ash is perfectly safe to be dusted off with a Car duster and all the other 8 step...

Ash from forest fire--bad for paint?

So much shenanigans for some fly ash? :) I am glad I don't live near Eyjafjallajokull or Hekla in Iceland. My science tells me dry ash is non reactive and should be safe to dust off. But once you add water to that ash in form of rain/snow/dew, that can turn into a reactive chemical slurry...
