Can "older" wax lose it's effectivness ?

Agree with above comments. I'll also volunteer to take any Pinnacle Souveran off your hands if you don't want to deal with it :-).

Better to detail before snow or after snow ?

Ok, Ok...us in northern climes give up :bat:  In all seriousness it's great folks get those kind of temps in January. I have a heated garage so I work all year long but it is much nicer when the work you put into a detail/wash/polish/... does not disappear under snow and/or salt the first...

    Am I claying too hard?

Hard to know for sure but when I see you saying "...scrub the ####..." then I automatically think YES you are overworking clay. Claying is not to be a major workout, as stated above you just need to apply enough pressure to hold it against the car and let it do the work. Time to do 2 cars...

Which wet/dry vacuum should I buy?

You do realize the last post prior to "shower's" was 2014. Not sure how to see when the last time someone posted. Speaking of, anyone know whatever happened to Bobby G.? He had a yellow Corvette behind him on his avatar.

    Have you no pride?

I like your terminology especially the 'fair' reference! It's very easy for someone being paid hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars and being allowed to spend days, maybe weeks on a single vehicle's detailing to say someone who gets to spend an hour or two at most is showing no pride. Not...

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

^^^^^ That's exactly what I've been doing for years! I use a clean/soapy_water_soaked MF mitt on a panel (or two at most), put the now dirty MF mitt in a bucket of dirty mitts. Pull another clean MF mitt out of the soapy water and go to the next panel. I usually go thru 8-10 mitts per car...

    Have you no pride?

Oh, I agree with you but again bear in mind dealership detailers are likely constrained to specific products (or product) they never had any input on. Realistically most of the detailers at lots probably do not know about those products themselves anyway, sadly. The folks on forums such as...

    Brand new vehicle questions!

Congrats on the new truck! Neighbor has the twin to yours, that blue is incredible on that vehicle. As for clear bras you've already got lots of good advice. I will add it's a must-do for any new vehicles I've purchased. The local shop here allowed me to do a quick wash of my vehicle...

    Have you no pride?

I've found over the years there are very few "Professional" detailers working at dealerships and the ones who are actually perfectionists are not allowed to spend the adequate amount of time on any one vehicle. In fairness their job is not to turn out a perfectly detailed car that will go to...

    New car prep

Congrats!! Great color combo. Subaru makes awesome vehicles. Agree with ntwillie1 on how to proceed with "LIGHT polish" being the operative phrase and that's assuming it's needed.

    New to polishers

I think all of us went thru exactly what you're going thru now. As kamakaz stated you're in the right place to take advantage of all the experience available for help. And yes you will get sometimes conflicting and confusing opinions however most everyone here is trying to help first and...

    Which MicroFiber Detergent You Use?

Tide Free & Clear (and sometimes All Clear). I've trusted this to items of clothing that are far more finicky and more costly than any MF. Not to mention I've used Tide for clothes that had oil, gas, grease and whatever else comes with working in a garage and they all came out perfectly...

    Non regretful detailing product purchase

Outside of polishers the most expensive detailing product I never regretted buying is Pinnacle Souveran. Got it several years ago during a 12 days of Christmas (Black Friday?) sale. Still my goto favorite for a high-end wax.

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I've finished working on a charcoal metallic 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee that a dealer monkey butchered with a rotary. I used 'old school' Menzerna products (PO83Q, PO85U & PO85RD) along with LCCC pads (orange, white, grey). I tried to take pics but doing close-ups in the highly lit up...

Looking for polish suggestions for GM paint

Agreed, hard to beat Menzerna for any OEM paint.

What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Steel wool works great on exhaust pipes that are in bad condition. Back when it was used on pitted/poor_condition windshields which is still doable however much better products exist today.

    Tool insurance!

Nice collection! Smart wife, no insurance company would believe you had that detailing arsenal, heck some of us find it hard to believe. :buffing:

    Pre-purchase services

Most pre-purchase inspections are nothing more than a quick walk around. I have looked into this several times and when you read what they actually do, it's not much more than that and I have yet to find one that will put any guarantee/warranty in place if they don't discover an issue. I...

Aaryn NZ, what I’ve been up to . . .

Aaryn -- fantastic work and enjoyable write-up. I'm a long time lurker and have always enjoyed your wit and wisdom (for a 40 yr old :-) ). Photos look perfect to me as well.
