tried out my new flex today

How do you clean your pads? I've had times where I didn't thoroughly rinse the pad clean and some of the pad cleaner that I used reacted with the polish. This caused the polish to gum up and also caused excessive dusting. :iagree: x2 plus, temp., humidity, the car and the condition of the...

    pad not spinning

The pad is not vibrating it is spinning off axis - orbiting around the axis, making a small circle as it goes around the center. I agree with Surfer that the spining doesn't aid in the polishing - the pad doesn't spin fast enough to do any benefit...In fact, it's slow enough at times I can...

    pad not spinning

When the PC is off does it spin freely? Does it spin when on and not on the paint? Since it's not a direct drive machine the rotation or spining of the pad comes from centrifugal force. Any pressure on the pad or machine will minimize or stop the spinning. I've found that it will stop...

Are tampico brushes safe for cleaning wheels

IMO I think it's too abrasive for wheels...it might be fine for chrome but I'd never use it for polished/uncoated aluminum wheels. I use a wash mitt or boar's hair brush for wheels.

1997 Land Rover Black Detail (lots of pics)

I thing you are right...my guestimation was not very accurate on that one:D No, it is flush but does have some play and will move about half of the height of the felt pad (~1/64")....or more if I force it. I think you might be on to something though...if the gear in the machine was at the...

    FLEX XC3401 problem

1997 Land Rover Black Detail (lots of pics)

I forgot to mention this...There has been a lot of concern about using pressure with the Flex 3401 and the backing plate touching/burning against the machine. Well I did a few pressure tests while using the Flex on the Rover and had no problem with melting or burning of the backing plate. I...

1997 Land Rover Black Detail (lots of pics)

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it! The Flex is a great machine and cut through those swirls/scratches very easily. The PC with the 4" pads did quite well to...it still amazes my how well the 4" pads cut. You will be very happy it's a great machine and IMO well worth the money. I...

    Porter Cable Advice

Was that for both the polishes? How much polish were you using? Try using a bit more polish (about a dime size for a 2-3ft area) when you first start to help prime the pad. Once the pad is primed, then decrease the amount of polish per section (about a large pea size for a 2-3ft area)...

    rotary or orbital?

If you are doing a couple cars a week you could get away with a PC or UDM. I wouldn't recommend a rotary though...a rotary with finishing pad is very easy to use, but using more aggressive pads and polishes they are harder to use and can cause some major damage rather quickly.:buffing: Now if...

    Porter Cable Advice

Did you use the included washer? If not, the backing plate might be hitting the machine causing the excessive heat. The machine is not direct drive so it's normal for to slow down it's spinning if you tilt it or use extra pressure. What did you experience? What polish are you using? The...

    Poorboys Trim Restorer Method

Thanks for the info guys...I hadn't used it on a Ford trim so that is good to know. I'll put a disclaimer on the demo about this. :goodpost: Thanks again, Charles

    Poorboys Trim Restorer Method

That is interesting, even working TR in to remove the discoloration, it came back that quickly? I've had that happen when I just apply TR and let it soak in, but not when I work it in...but I haven't tried it on a Ford though. Time to look through the neighborhood for a Ford to test on.:buffing:

    Headlight Restoration

I have a video showing how to restore light with the (uv?) coating flaking off but haven't had a chance to finish it yet. Like detailgod & jesselyons2002 said you are going to need to wetsand then polish to restore them. They are past the point of polish restoration. Here are pics of the...

    Poorboys Trim Restorer Method

OK not a new product, but something I've been using for a while. I finally got around to taking some pictures and showing my method that has worked great at restoring, not just covering, faded trim. It's a pictorial demo so here is the page: Poorboy's Trim Restorer The method works very well...

    FLEX XC3401 problem

My question to everyone that has had this problem...what kind of pressure are you applying? When I tested it I applied moderate to heavy pressure (for a few passes) with no ill effect. Are you applying pressure at an angle/on the side of the pad? There is very little clearance between the BP...
