wet sanding your headlights = nasty scratches

Have you seen your headlights at night when the lights are on? When you sand your lights and polish, you may not be getting all the scratches out. It might look good enough during the day, but take a look at your headlights with the light beam shining through them. holy scratches and swirls.

Will sanding remove this from headlights?

don't let the dealer "restore" them. They're going to sand and buff it, and make it worse, with premature yellowing and hazing. I made that mistake with my lexus, and they did a s### job. They want to restore it because the lights cost an arm and leg to replace. I wish car companies would...

can you jewel with a light medium cutting pad?

i did not know there were different jeweling techniques. I'm working on lexus paint. I have a 6" blue polishing pad, and I found it takes too much time to remove swirls. I was just thinking light pressure on a DA with a light-medium foam pad, and letting the polish do the work. or will the...

can you jewel with a light medium cutting pad?

is it possible to achieve very good clarity with an orange light-medium cut foam pad with Megs Ultimate Polish using jeweling technique? There are some narrow contoured areas I have 3" pads for, and I don't want to buy any more different pads because they are a ripoff.

    Identify this defect

I know what OP's talking about. I have the same pitting on my dark Lexus on the horizontal surfaces only. My theory is that the paint gets hot and soft and breaks down. My light colored car is older and does not have this problem.

    Collinite 845 Insulator Wax..my thoughts

i just bought my first bottle of 845 ever. it seemed to rinse off the yellow meguiars foam pad easily. I thought the waxiness would remain on the pad longer. yes, I heated it up and shook it for a long time.

what do you think about getting leather conditioner into the stitching

sorry, I'm not talking about exposed stitching. I'm talking about at the seams, where it might stretch, and where you can't see thread. I have read that when the leather dries out, those seams might stretch irreparably.

what do you think about getting leather conditioner into the stitching

That hidden stitching that holds pieces of the leather seat fabric together. Do you think it's beneficial to get a bit of Lexol into those stitching holes, or will it just grease and dirty things up too much?

Any downside to using 3"/3.5" backing plate & pads on 6" DA

I shaved a 6" bp down to 3", and it seems to work great on my cheap harbor freight da.

    blue 3m ebay clay?

no I do not plan to polish the car afterwards. My claying technique is very light pressure and soapy water. Then rinse and wax. You think it would still mar the paint? I currently use Meguiar's white clay, but clay in the USA is a big rip off. If anyone has used both this blue clay and meg's...

    blue 3m ebay clay?

Anyone order this stuff before? Blue 3m clay? Is it ok for soft lexus paint?

settling the backing blate "wobble" question?

I just bought a regular backing plate that wobbles because the 5/16" bolt is not perfectly perpendicular to the polishing surface. The plate that came with my DA spins perfectly flat. I'm sure the buffing pad will absorb some of the wobble, and luckily, I'm trimming down the backing plate to...

has anyone used the manual polishing thing from ebay?

I already have a DA. I just need to do small areas by hand where the DA is hard to get to, where body panels make a concave 90 degree turn.

has anyone used the manual polishing thing from ebay?

I'm talking about this thing below. Do those foam pads have any cutting power? How's the quality of this whole setup?

I can probably take a cheap 5" plate and use a router to whittle it down to 3".

    Which Brand 3" Backing Plate?

Will these 3" plates fit the harbor freight DA ? Will these pads be hard to control due to less surface area than my regular 6" pads?

Durability- CG Extreme Depth Liquid Carnauba Creme Wax + X-Seal

How long does one application typically last? I know the butter wet wax vaporizes in a week. But how about this "extreme x-seal" ? collinite 845 still has this beat?
