I'm curious to why you kept stepping to finer products and waxes if the swirls weren't removed? You can usually tell if there's swirls before you do your final wax...

5.5" pads are what I use 99%of the time, I find they're a good mix of area coverage and maneuverability. I know pin striping and vinyl lettering are different, but the same idea. Today I polished over these stripes with a B&S orange flat pad, rupes 15 on 6 and a compound equivalent to fg400...

You could tape off the individual letters for best results, but to be honest I've polished over hundreds of letters using a white pad and swirl removal and it works fine. It even brightens up the letters

I find you can easily go over most vinyl lettering with a swirl remover if you don't push too heavily but to be safe just tape the letters off

I hear people doing the fg400, 2500 then 4000 but I see no point on the second step. Fg400, 4000, beer. Is a good 3 step polish. I don't use glazes or anything with fillers either. I do see a purpose for glazes but just not for the vehicles I work on
