Roadshow Class - Canyon Country, California - July 13th, 14th at the 3D Training Center with Mike Phillips at Autogeek

Nice! I'm sure the logistics are interesting getting all the stuff across the country on time and undamaged.

Review: 3D ONE Hybrid Cutting Compound and Finishing Polish

That's pretty neat. I had no idea you could run polish like that over glass and chrome. Now you've really got me thinking about next steps for my Nova!

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

Thank you for the continued encouragement! It is great to have the support and knowledge of this forum to guide me. My car is still far from perfect but it's come a long way. I will definitely come back and update this thread as I continue to work on the car. There are LOTS of areas that would...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

That is really too bad that people don't come back online to show their results. I forgive because many people do not have the skill to do so. There is a whole world of talent out there that does not share what they do on the net either due to technical hurdles (unable to take photos or good...

12 different people - 6 different polishers and 1 jeweling wax = wet paint

That is truly spectacular Mike. I wonder if I should try that type of AIO for the single stage paint on my Nova? How did you approach the trim, door handles, and emblems on that car? It looks like you did not tape them off or remove them. Did you just stay away from those areas with the polishers?

Thank you all for the kind words. This has been a very rewarding foray into detailing. I literally started knowledgeless about how to do this, but thanks to the reading up on this forum and watching videos, I was able to get unexpectedly awesome results. I was oblivious to what was possible. I...

Bringing an Old Car Back to Life!!

I am starting to feel old when an '02 is considered to be an "old" car. I was expecting to open the thread and find a vintage or classic car from anywhere between 1930s through 1970s or maybe 1980s. But now I realize '02 is getting to be old too. Even though I've seen this process a number of...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

At this point I ran out of both time and energy to polish the car. I had one afternoon left before a show and I decided it was "good enough" for now. Taking a shortcut, I moved on to wax. I used the DA with a black finishing pad as a wax spreader and applied Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax. I...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

I was really happy when I finished the last sections and pulled the car out to inspect in the sunlight. I was exhausted after compounding the whole car. I don't know how many hours I put into it exactly. It took a lot out of me to remove all the trim, door handles, tail lights, bumper...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

I was blown away at the results of cutting the oxidation off this old paint. It's hard to explain the magnitude of the change, so here are some videos that really show the difference. Hood 50/50 Door 50/50 Trunk 50/50 YouTube In addition to the videos, here are some photos. The tops of...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

After experimenting on a few test spots with polish, I took a hiatus from working on the paint in order to focus on other upgrades, prep the car for autocross and enjoy driving the car for a while. That didn't stop me from taking lots of photos in the meantime, even a couple "before and after"...

    Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Black Edition

Great work. I wonder if the 1.4mil is an accurate reading or if the material of the underlying panel can throw off the reading? Do those thickness gauges read well on aluminum?

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

I received this advice on another forum: What do you guys think? Should I try a couple passes with the ultimate compound and an orange pad? I'm curious if in addition to eliminating some of the remaining haziness and speed up the whole job if it might also knock down a little of the orange...

That's a great idea! Thank you! I will try that out on the other side and the tail panel. The tail panel may end up needing compound to get rid of the scratches. We'll see!

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

Step 3: Compound ~ SKIP ~ On Mike's advice, I decided to skip compounding (for now) and start by seeing what I could accomplish with polish alone. Beyond what Mike said in this thread, something I have heard from him and others over-and-over is to: "Use the least aggressive method that gets...

    Newbie single stage paint restoration

Thank you SWETN. I am very hesitant to use any kind of solvent.. I know I can get it off with a metal razor blade, because I shaved one of them down VERY carefully and I was able to get it off. That method comes with a major risk of carving into the underlying body paint. I hadn't though of a...

i have been thinking about the NMCA West Autox April 14 & 15. It's not very far out though so I'm not sure I'll be ready or feel comfortable driving the car that far on relatively fresh changes (brakes, suspension, etc.
